Surreal Ice Age Beauty

Advantages: Unspoilt natural beauty.
Disadvantages: Few facilities.

The Valley of the Rocks runs parallel to the sea in north Devon, with a line of high dramatic rock formations separating the now dry river bed from the coast. It was formed 450,00 million years ago, in the Ice Age, when rivers that once flowed here were diverted. The valley floor is 300 ft above sea level.

Many legends have grown up about the rock formations, giving rise to their imaginative names, such as Castle Rock, Ragged Jack, ...

== How to Get There ==

If you want to come back via a different route, ask Lynton Tourist Information for advice suitable to your ... more

Woolacombe

Advantages: Relaxed, friendly, local atmostphere
Disadvantages: Peak time crowds

+ Bs and apartements to reside in. Up the road is Morthoe with more accomodation. Try the tourist information in Woolacombe to find availability and prices. Surrounding Areas: Morthoe is a small beautiful village, 10min walk. Lynton and Lynmouth for a cream tea and a ride on the cliff railway. Valley of rocks, a good climb for a spectacular view! Look out for the White Lady! Croyde and Braunton are also worth a visit for a browse around the shops. Prices: Rather high I'm afraid, expect to pay £2.70 for cooking lager, £4.50 for a cream tea and about between £7 - £12 for a main dish. Nightlife: Only a handful of pubs but a lively atmostphere and alays a friendly face. Beware, food served no later than 10.00pm so get in there early or go hungry! One club open Wed - Sat peak season, slighlty over priced but if you're stuck ...
