Fabulous Vancouver!

Advantages: Great city, great food, good value for money once you're there
Disadvantages: Expensive to get to and long flight there

...'''ABOUT VANCOUVER'''

Vancouver is located on the Pacific Northwest coast of Canada, and it's proximity to Asia lends a massive influence from the east. Its metropolitan population of over 2 million makes this a big city, with all the skyscrapers associated with this kind of North American city.

Downtown is made up of several distinct areas such as Gastown and Chinatown, and venturing a little further will take you to ...
...Banff and Whistler. The beautiful Vancouver Island is also close by (sadly I didn't get to go there). It isn't so far over the border to the state of Oregon in the USA, and Seattle is a short plane or longer bus, train or car journey away.

'''DOWNTOWN VANCOUVER'''

Out trip began in Vancouver, the first time either of us had been to the west coast of North America. The long flight (about 10 hours) meant that we ended ... more

Vancouver: Spectacular by Nature

Advantages: Pretty much perfection
Disadvantages: Rains alot!

...it’s very hard to beat Vancouver for sheer breathtaking beauty. Top that with numerous parks – including the huge forest-filled Stanley Park, superb shopping, varied nightlife, cultural and sporting offerings, as well as bright modern architecture and it's pretty hard to avoid the cliche ‘there’s no place quite like this’. GENERAL FACTS Canada is vast, stretching from the Atlantic to the Pacific. It is further from Vancouver in the West to Toronto ...
...British Airways fly directly to Vancouver from London Heathrow. Having flown with both I would recommend British Airways, it’s a long flight – around 10 hours and I didn’t have a good experience with Air Canada either way but may be that can go in a separate review! A flight to Vancouver will set you back between £300 and £700 depending on the time of year – avoid ski seasons if you’re just going for a city break since Vancouver airport serves Whistler ...

British Columbia - one of THE places to visit

Advantages: Good value, magnificent scenery everywhere
Disadvantages: Long flight to get there. Not much else!

...could be. From London to Vancouver is an approximate nine hours, little more than the equivalent into Toronto or New York. We did'nt take the kids with us on this occasion, but if you are planning on doing so, I would recommend investing in a large number of sketch books, comics and even an MP3 or portable DVD player. It would be the best money you have ever spent! Regardless, moving about the cabin and stretching your legs is advisable. The service ...
...was'nt a direct flight into Vancouver available when we booked, so we had a short stop in Calgary where for some reason officials were walking about grinning happily under unfeasably large cowboy hats. The transfer was supposed to be half an hour, but there was no way in hell we could get our luggage in that sort of timeframe. As a result, we spent almost four hours in the airport waiting for a connecting flight into Vancouver. I would very much ...

...visited the West Coast of Vancouver Island in 1778, and twelve years later, George Vancouver was sent out by the British to settle a land dispute. Soon after Fur traders arrived. Getting There ----------------- We flew direct with British Airways, from Heathrow. Because of all my international flying, I had accumulated about a gezillion or so air miles, and we were able to upgrade to business class. In fact we did not pay for our flights at all. ...
...You will arrive at Vancouver International Airport (Hopefully!), and we actually took a bus to downtown Vancouver. We were staying at the Pan Pacific Hotel, and the bus dropped us off right at the door. This was OK, but the cost of the bus for two of us was probably the same as a taxi anyway. If there are more than two of you, definitely take the taxi option. We travelled independently, and booked all the segments of our journey separately, however ...

I really don't know!

Advantages: Vibrant, busy and buzzing city.
Disadvantages: For me, nothing special of note in the city

I sent four days in Vancouver whilst on holiday in May / June 2007. We flew into Vancouver, sent a few nights in Seattle, then back to Vancouver before heading up to the Rockies for ten days. I had no idea what to expect of this city. I’d had done quite a bit of reading up before arriving and knew that it was surrounded by spectacular scenery, but as we were staying over before going into the mountains I had no great wish to travel too far out. ...
...the sights and see what Vancouver had to offer. In terms of area, Vancouver is vast. We drove into the city from the south and seemed to be driving through out lying districts and suburbs forever. The city seems very low rise and clean, and most of the outlying areas seemed to have their own commercial and social centres with lots of shops and restaurants. Although the approach along Granville Street was long, it is in no way unpleasant as it is ...

Vancouver Island-A Wildlife watchers dream.

Advantages: Clean air, Beautiful scenery, very helpful and friendly people
Disadvantages: Not enough time to see and do everything

I visited Vancouver and Vancouver Island in June 2004, it was my first trip abroad and I did it alone. I had got the idea of the trip from reading some British Columbia magazines that were given to me by someone in work. After only one week of planning where I would go and the places I would visit, I booked my flight on the internet through Canadian Affair a comany I'd not heard of, but would certainly recommend. They operate a no ticket style ...
...before in that time. Vancouver Airport is a massive place and comprises two airports, one for internal and local flights and the other is the main International airport. Having passed through the stern looking customs and immigration which look like cops, I set about looking for somewhere to stay. At the information desk I was able to purchase a nights stay in a hostel in downtown Vancouver (I was going for the cheap option), called the Backpackers ...

New Adventures In Unagi

Advantages: Great sushi, excellent service and good value for money
Disadvantages: Might have to book in advance to get a table

. CONCLUSION I have to tip my hat to Ms Larsbaby as she obviously had better instincts than me when it came to this place. The sushi was excellent, the service friendly and the atmosphere convivial. Definitely worth the visit; make sure you try the Unagi. At only $26 (about £13) this was a bargain and yes, I can't work out what happened to the extra Unagi either! Bargain Japanese food at a down to earth eaterie

Advantages: Cheap, great good, nice atmosphere
Disadvantages: I'm hard pressed to think of any except for the distance

INTRODUCTION During my summer holiday in Canada, upon arriving in Vancouver totally jetlagged, myself and Ms Larsbaby felt hungry at what was bedtime for us, but lunchtime for those all around us. Nosing around downtown with our guidebook, we chanced upon Asahi-Ya, a Japanese restaurant recommended in out guidebook under the "budget" section. At this west end of Robson Street, there are many Japanese (and indeed all kinds of Asian such as Vietnamese and Korean) restaurants of varying budgets, so you're very well served here; it's just a matter of picking one. We walked in, sat down and ate. This is how it went. THE RESTAURANT From the outside, you can see many pictures of the dishes in its very crowded window. Something about the tiling in the façade makes you think "Oriental", as does the small neon signs ...

a packet. CONCLUSION Noodle Express was a good example of excellent, authentic Japanese food in Vancouver, of which we saw several. The sizeable portions filled both of us up, and the friendly service kept us happy. The bill of $25 seemed fair enough to me. It looked like the sort of place that would be bustling at its peak time and it would be a great place to be then. In summary then, one to add to the recommended list.
