Fabulous Vancouver!

Advantages: Great city, great food, good value for money once you're there
Disadvantages: Expensive to get to and long flight there

...Zoom! ABOUT VANCOUVER Vancouver is located on the Pacific Northwest coast of Canada, and it's proximity to Asia lends a massive influence from the east. Its metropolitan population of over 2 million makes this a big city, with all the skyscrapers associated with this kind of North American city. Downtown is made up of several distinct areas such as Gastown and Chinatown, and venturing a little further will take you to places such as Richmond, ...
...Banff and Whistler. The beautiful Vancouver Island is also close by (sadly I didn't get to go there). It isn't so far over the border to the state of Oregon in the USA, and Seattle is a short plane or longer bus, train or car journey away. DOWNTOWN VANCOUVER Out trip began in Vancouver, the first time either of us had been to the west coast of North America. The long flight (about 10 hours) meant that we ended up at our downtown hotel at ...

...partner, starting in Vancouver, exploring Vancouver Island by car, then taking the Rocky Mountaineer train to Jasper and on to Lake Louise, Banff and Calgary. Our main objective was to experience the beauty of the vast wide open-spaces, but also spend a few days enjoying Canadian culture in some of the towns and cities. Vancouver We flew with Air Canada from Heathrow Terminal 3 into Vancouver. Rather than having a car while in Vancouver, we took ...
...in 1867 and incorporated into Vancouver in 1886, and retains many old buildings and some of its character. It is quite a tourist y area with many souvenir shops but also has a good selection of cafes and makes an excellent place for a slightly overpriced lunch. Granville Island, actually a small peninsula underneath the Granville Street Bridge and connected to downtown, is also popular with tourists and gets very busy. It is again historically interesting, ...

I really don't know!

Advantages: Vibrant, busy and buzzing city.
Disadvantages: For me, nothing special of note in the city

I sent four days in Vancouver whilst on holiday in May / June 2007. We flew into Vancouver, sent a few nights in Seattle, then back to Vancouver before heading up to the Rockies for ten days. I had no idea what to expect of this city. I’d had done quite a bit of reading up before arriving and knew that it was surrounded by spectacular scenery, but as we were staying over before going into the mountains I had no great wish to travel too far out. ...
...the sights and see what Vancouver had to offer. In terms of area, Vancouver is vast. We drove into the city from the south and seemed to be driving through out lying districts and suburbs forever. The city seems very low rise and clean, and most of the outlying areas seemed to have their own commercial and social centres with lots of shops and restaurants. Although the approach along Granville Street was long, it is in no way unpleasant as it is ...

V ictoria B.C. a mighty fine place!

Advantages: Big city convinence with small town friendliness
Disadvantages: Very busy during summer months

If visiting Vancouver be sure to take the "B.C. ferry" to Vancouver Island and visit Victoria even for the day. It has the feeling of a Small town with all the conveniences of a Big city. With whale watching, gorgeous scenery , great food and lots of tourist attractions. It surely is a place that wont be forgotten. Also be sure to visit the famous Butchart Gardens,Empress Hotel and Parliment buildings, if you decide to stay for a few days be sure ...

British Columbia - one of THE places to visit

Advantages: Good value, magnificent scenery everywhere
Disadvantages: Long flight to get there. Not much else!

...could be. From London to Vancouver is an approximate nine hours, little more than the equivalent into Toronto or New York. We did'nt take the kids with us on this occasion, but if you are planning on doing so, I would recommend investing in a large number of sketch books, comics and even an MP3 or portable DVD player. It would be the best money you have ever spent! Regardless, moving about the cabin and stretching your legs is advisable. The service ...
...was'nt a direct flight into Vancouver available when we booked, so we had a short stop in Calgary where for some reason officials were walking about grinning happily under unfeasably large cowboy hats. The transfer was supposed to be half an hour, but there was no way in hell we could get our luggage in that sort of timeframe. As a result, we spent almost four hours in the airport waiting for a connecting flight into Vancouver. I would very much ...
