Birthday Dinner.

Advantages: Good food, great decor, friendly staff
Disadvantages: -

Because it was my friend's birthday we had to have somewhere special to eat. But since we had just arrived in Vancouver, had no money after a long stint of not working (hooray though for 10 weeks of no work) and we didn't really know of anywhere the options werent overwhelming. The Sunday before her birthday my friend, lets call her Tracey - because that's her name, walked past Moxies Classic Grill on Broadway and was intrigued so the next night ...
...her so? Out of the front was an outdoor seating area, and in that outdoor seating area was a river rock fireplace. Not that it would probably keep you warm much if it was needed but boy it looks cool! (as in funky, not cold). Inside there are dark wood interiors with an interesting and eye catching selection of lamps and plants. Though you can sit at the granite-topped bar, we chose to go straight to a booth. The section we were in didn't have a ...

Bargain Japanese food at a down to earth eaterie

Advantages: Cheap, great good, nice atmosphere
Disadvantages: I'm hard pressed to think of any except for the distance

...our guidebook, we chanced upon Asahi-Ya, a Japanese restaurant recommended in out guidebook under the "budget" section. At this west end of Robson Street, there are many Japanese (and indeed all kinds of Asian such as Vietnamese and Korean) restaurants of varying budgets, so you're very well served here; it's just a matter of picking one. We walked in, sat down and ate. This is how it went. THE RESTAURANT From the outside, you can see many ...
...about the tiling in the façade makes you think "Oriental", as does the small neon signs proclaiming "Teriyaki", "Sushi", "Tempura". There are also neon signs in Japanese. A dark blue ceiling overlooks several partitioned tables and booths, giving a quite intimate feel. To the back of the restaurant were the kitchen and bathroom areas. The light walls and darker wood partitions give that ying and yang balance to the décor. Lighting was pleasantly ...

The genuine Vancouver Dim Sum experience

Advantages: Great food, great prices, a real experience
Disadvantages: Need to arrive early to avoid queuing for a table

...and didn't look very promising. Floata was mentioned in our guidebook, and when we went there during the week it seemed pretty empty. We didn't bother that day and decided to return for dim sum. When we arrived for the second time on a Sunday lunchtime, an altogether different scene greeted us. A queue of Chinese diners waiting for a table convinced us that this was the time to eat here. And so we did. THE RESTAURANT Located in a building ...

Top Thai cuisine in downtown Vancouver

Advantages: Excellent food, excellent service, excellent prices
Disadvantages: It's a ten hour flight away

...there. THE RESTAURANT Sala Thai has two locations, one on Burrard Street, the other on Cambie Street. Cambie street is someway south of downtown. We went to the one on Burrard, at the heart of downtown, which looks pretty big from the outside. When we went, the restaurant was pretty full and we had to wait a short while for our table for two. A good sign then, that the place was so popular. In the middle of the restaurant was a rickshaw ...
