I went to Bulgaria in July 2006, and stayed in a Villa in a town called Galata. It is a 15min bus ride to Varna. It costs about 30p to Varna town on the bus. It is so cheap in Bulgaria that we found it difficult to spend our money.
We went for two weeks and there was my Husband, daughter and myself and we only spent £380 in total. Not bad considering we were in a villa so therefore had to buy everything.
The town of Varna itself is an ok town, but BEWARE when getting on the buses, as the buses have a door at the front and in the middle, when they stop and there is quite a large crowd a group of young girls rush to the front and block the door asking the driver questions and then in the middle door someone else blocks that door so no-one can get on, while you are held up the other young girls pinch whatever they can get, wallets, purses, mobile phones. So beware I would recommend that if there is a crowd then stand back until they have all got on the bus then go for it or wait for the next one.
We spent the day in Golden Sands which personally we found to be a better place than Varna. The beach road is a nice place and is very cheap and pleasant, for the younger ones they should go just off the beach to a street called Party Street, the name say's it all really.
Visited the Roman Baths which was very good and made you realise how big the place was. Very pleasant lady at the kiosk. There is quite a few stray cats and dogs in Varna and most of the dogs are tagged, meaning that they had been neutered or sterilised, So we were told. Quite a few in and around the Baths.
I would go again but I would stay in a hotel, as the Villa we stayed in was ok but could have been a lot better. There is a lot of reasons for that comment but perhaps they are best left for another day.
Go to Bulgaria and enjoy the experiences as of course next year they are hoping to join the Euro so maybe the prices will go up.

Not somewhere I've ever thought of going, but it sounds interesting. And the low prices are definitely a draw! Melony

A good guide for anyone who might want to visit. Sounds like the place has some local flavour! For more higher ratings you might want to consider lengthoning the review with a bit more basic information, but for me it was worthy of VH as it was. :>
