Hotel Carlton Grand Canal- Great Location Advantages: close to bus station Disadvantages: deceptive hotel website pictures create a disappointment when visiting this small hotel ...room are quite deceptive; the Carlton Grand Canal Hotel is a crummy looking hotel with tiny rooms but apparently this is to be expected in Venice- it is also useful to note that there are many dilapidated looking buildings facing the canals and this is becuase the owners are reluctant to spend vast amounts of money on restoration as the canal facade detriorates rapidly from the harsh elements (salt water etc). However this shouldn't deter people ... ...impressive with black mould round the bath. Staff can be unhelpful. On a positive note the breakfast was good. It would have been useful to have board games or pool table in the hotel as some afternoons can be very very hot and it is common for shops to close for the siesta- when travelling with kids this facility would have been very useful. On the whole I would probably try another hotel in future. Amoung the canals of venice Advantages: Perfect location; looks very picturesque; resonable price Disadvantages: Some rooms quite small After much searching around for a reasonably priced hotel in Venice, we stumbled upon this one, advertised as a 4-star hotel in a deal that was less than the price of most of the three star hotels. Arriving in venice via a train from Rome, there was a half hour waterbus journey down the Grand Canal (which afforded for some spectacualr views and is the perfect way for first time visitors to experience the magic of this whimsical city) until we reached ... ...does prove a little tricky at first even with a map, due to the very small and very many streets, but the Caveletto could not have a better location. It is quite literally a stone's throw from St. Mark's Square (the centre of all things Venetian) and it is a very hard to miss. The hotel itself looks just as though it is from a painting and every time that you walk back to it, there is certainly a feeling that you are getting the most from your experience ... Hotel Cipriani Advantages: Impecable service, stylish, great location Disadvantages: Some might prefer to be in the hustle and bustle of St Mark's Square ...service to and from the hotel is well run and the drivers knowledgeable. The staff of the hotel itself are equally wonderful and whilst discrete are so incredibly helpful. The swimming pool is a great place to spend time when taking a break from exploring this excellent city. Lunch at the poolside bar is not to be missed and nor is a dinner at Cips Club. The food cannot be faulted. LITTLE GEM HOTEL IN VENICE CALLED LA FENICE Advantages: location location Disadvantages: the staff the hotel is famous for the artists and authors who have stayed there. The hotel is located just five minutes walk from St. Mark's Square. so a brilliant location only problem is finding it the first time as the directions to the hotel given by the hotel seem very complicated and not easy to follow. It is only 15 minutes from Rialto bridge and even closer to Acadamier so a perfect location. It is located in a quiet thoroughfare so no street noise ... ...by special arrangement only. The hotel ambience was very much in keeping with Venice and has a quantness about it there is a little garden you can have your breakfast in and drinks in the evening although it is quite nice it is not beautiful..
