Location, location, location Advantages: Awesome location Disadvantages: Food prices very high ...the Internet, I found the Hotel Monaco & Grand Canal. LOCATION The location of the hotel can't be beaten. It is just under 2 minutes walk from the Piazza San Marco (St. Marks Square), and it overlooks the Grand Canal. The restaurant, which I will talk about in more detail later, has seats right on the waterfront. If you know Venice, and know of Harry's bar, the hotel is right next to it. If you don't know Venice, Harry's bar is one of the most ... ...GETTING THERE Access to the hotel is very easy. Of course, you can just walk in from the street. It is very close to the San Marco water bus stop too, which is extremely convenient. From the airport however, you can spend up to 2 hours waiting for, and catching the bus. These can be very crowded from the airport too, and certainly isn't a comfortable ride. Beautiful little hotel Advantages: The decor, the breakfast, the friendly staff, Disadvantages: Some rooms are a little on the small side, but this was no big inconvenience ...standard double room in the Ca' Dei Conti hotel (on expedia) for 3 nights in early January 2008, as a romantic break for my boyfriend and I. We fell in love with the place!. The hotel is incredibly easy to find by public water bus, you just get off at the San Zaccaria stop and follow the directions given on the hotel website. It's situated only a few minutes walk from St. Marks Square, but is incredibly quiet and secluded, so there is no noise or ... ...you go off of the tourist path a bit. All in all, I can't wait to go back to the Ca' Dei Conti. Hotel Carlton Grand Canal- Great Location Advantages: close to bus station Disadvantages: deceptive hotel website pictures create a disappointment when visiting this small hotel ...room are quite deceptive; the Carlton Grand Canal Hotel is a crummy looking hotel with tiny rooms but apparently this is to be expected in Venice- it is also useful to note that there are many dilapidated looking buildings facing the canals and this is becuase the owners are reluctant to spend vast amounts of money on restoration as the canal facade detriorates rapidly from the harsh elements (salt water etc). However this shouldn't deter people ... ...impressive with black mould round the bath. Staff can be unhelpful. On a positive note the breakfast was good. It would have been useful to have board games or pool table in the hotel as some afternoons can be very very hot and it is common for shops to close for the siesta- when travelling with kids this facility would have been very useful. On the whole I would probably try another hotel in future. Oriental Venetian bliss Advantages: Close to the water bus drop off, central to the dity Disadvantages: Room very small, walls paper thin Ai Mori d'Oriente Hotel We found this to be a charming small hotel. It straddles two buildings which is possibly its only disadvantage, in that we had to go up and under, round and down and up and under again through very narrow corridors to get to our room. Venice is an old city and I suppose that one of the charms that the buildings are not clones of each other. The hotel has a breakfast room, but does not provide evening ... ...The staff in the hotel on a whole though were fairly non engaging. Breakfast was absolutely excellent and is served in a large covered courtyard, with lots of eating options. Scrambled egg and bacon costs extra though. Our room was small, and was located in the attic space, and it felt like that. We had non-functioning air conditioning, we left the window open and that was however fine. LOCANDA REMEDIO Venice's hidden gem. Advantages: LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION Disadvantages: NONE We actually stayed in the Anex of Hotel Colombia that is called LOCANDA REMEDIO. You use the checkin of the Colombina, then they take you thru the back yard, DO NOT LET THIS DETER YOU. You then enter the Anex climbing a stone stairway that opens into a Beautiful Salon, this is where you will have breakfast, superb compared with small breakfast room in the main Hotel. The staff come across in the morning and set the tables in the Salon.
