I have been going to Verbier for the last 5 years and it is the most beautiful place.

It does tend to be a bit on the expensive side if you are eating out a lot. But if you go self catering the supermarket prices are not dramatically different to here and there is a large variety of fresh produce.

Drinks in a lot of bars can get pricy put places like Pub Mont Fort have a cheep happy hour. The Après Ski bars (especially the Farinet) can get very busy from about 6pm onwards, but this only adds to the atmosphere!
Pub Mont Fort is always busy and tends to be where the instructors and more regular resort visitors go in an evening, however it does tend to get a little Smokey but this will change when the smoking ban comes into force.

If you want to avoid really long queue's I'd book you holiday around the 2nd or 3rd week in January if at all possible as this is just after the Christmas/New Year rush but before the Easter rush, the snow is awesome then and although it is still a busy resort it's not quite so bad as peak times.
If however you are coming for a more exiting time New Years Eve is the most fun, the whole night is spent in Place Central as one massive street party, the only let down is that there is no official time announcement so everyone celebrates in their own time. Also towards the end of the season in March every year there is a Nissan O'Neil extreme competition that ends in the streets and mountains of Verbier. The main route through the town is closed to traffic and there are street parties and markets for the entire weekend.

The ski school "Altitude" were very helpful and have a lot of English staff which helps with any language barriers that may occur. I would thoroughly recommend them. It's quite a new school but also one of the largest. They offer group sessions, one on one, guided ski tours and the "Altitude Extreme" instructors coach to a very advanced level.
