We travelled to Victoria from Vancouver with the ferry. The scenery from the island is amazing. Although I didn't go to the museum or the famous garden, I heard that they are well worth going to. On one of the days we spent at Victoria we went whale watching. On the way to where we thought the whales were we were told had to stop off and rescue a boat with crew who had been stranded on some mud flats. We never heard any more about them - maybe they are still there(?). We took a detour to see some birds on an island which cut in to our time, although they were beautiful birds it was meant to be whale watching. We then went to see an eagles nest. Finally we arrived at the spot where the whales were - I could have guessed where they were because there were about 5 other boats circling an area - oh what a surprise when some whales surfaced. However, we only saw a couple of small minkie whales on the trip. We headed back to the dock when we were told that we had to land at a jetty on the way back to get some fuel because we had a dangerously low amount. This was not made any better by the fact that everyone was wet due to the choppy seas. When we got back to the dock we were only an hour and a half late - shame we missed seeing the museum because of it!
I managed to see some massive whales from BC ferries on the first trip across, so I just hired a boat to go and see the seals whilst in V. From your comments I'm glad I did
