My wife and I knew that from the first day we set foot on Victoria, wow, we want to live here. To a visitor Victoria wouldn’t be much unless you had a good map and knew where to go(you can’t get lost). The focal point of Victoria is the inner harbour as it’s the heart of the city. This is great on summer evenings – you can hear music, the calm water, the well lit parliament building, pretty hanging baskets…truly a great experience in such a short space. Near this spot is Government Street. Here you have a quiet street with plenty of seating and unique stores. The restaurants are great. The Cheesecake café is a must see. If you want to see a mall…the newly named Bay Centre is on Government st too…For a multi level mall, it hides well and does not impose itself on the smaller stores.
This a walking city and if you are wondering about public transportation, it’s the best I have come across. The drivers are almost tour guides and friendly, CAN$1.75 gets you to any destination within the city. Willows Beach is a MUST see, and you even pass the VERY pretty Oak Bay village on the way. You can catch a bus from Douglas Street(running parallel to Government St).
Hotels and B&B’s are great, you should do some research as the all charge different rates. CAN$80 per night is average in summer. We stayed with a lovely couple at Hobbs End B&B, and we fell in love with the place.
If you like parks, Beacon Hill Park is a few minutes walk from the inner harbour. It’s a wonderfully looked after Park and even has an outdoor auditorium for evenings concerts. The petting zoo is great.
The city is beautiful and clearly looked after. There are 4 malls to choose from if you like them and many nice restaurants to visit. Once place I would recommend would be Butchart gardens. It’s an amazing and pretty botanical garden. I think anyone would enjoy this park.
There is the IMAX theater which is a must see, you can go whale watching, visit a wax museum, take to the air for a scenic tour http://www.westcoastair.com, see some amazing totem polls at thunderbird park, miniature world and many more.
For the year and half we lived there, I honestly feel that it was the best time of my life. Never have I been in a city which is so pretty, relaxed and friendly. It’s a must see.

I enjoyed reading your review but think that you need to say a little more - where it is for example? Did you fly via Vancouver, Canada or Seattle, or another way? Costs? I did enjoy reading this but you need to think about all the questions you might ask about a city you hadn't been to, perhaps hadn't heard of until now, and answer them in a travel review. Luci
