I took a trip to Zimbabwe back in June 2000 to meet my wife's family for the very first time. During that 3 week visit we decided to take a short flight from harare (about an hour) to stay for 3 days at The Kingdom. Basically this was the 2nd closesthotel to Vic Falls and as my wife was a Zim citizen then we got to stay there for $20US each per night. The usual tourist cost was $120.
The falls themselves are just fantastic and I regret not taking the chance to do the helicopter flight over them. We did however fly over the falls on the way in, so that certainly made up for it.
The falls are located within a park, which at the time of the year we were there, was very quiet. I dont remember the cost to the park, however on the walk down to the park we encountered an elephant standing in the middle of the path. Obviously we took a very wide berth around him.
Its very difficult to describe one of those freaks of nature, like the falls, and I'll do it no justice. It is simply exceptional. You just cannot go to Zimbabwe and not visit Vic falls. We took reel upon reel of photos and lots of video shots.
Whilst staying at Vic falls we took advantage of the park and took a morning safari, having breakfast by the side of a lake/river. We managed to see lots of wildlife and really enjoyed the experience.
We took advantage of a beautiful sunset on the river to see some buffalo and got some fantastic photos of a lovely pink sky. One of the most rememerable experiences. And free beer too!
We also took the chance to visit a local restuarant that catered for the tourist with such treats as worms on offer. We also got to watch some traditional african dancers. Boy those girls can wiggle. I think the place was called the Bomba.
After our three days there we felt exhausted. Obviously I had the advantage of an excellent guide (my wife) but I really did find the street hawkers annoying and its one of the things that I always think about. Of course there was also some fantastic shops there (as my wife will attest to) and we found some real bargins.
I would thoroughly recommend Vic falls to anyone but bear in mind that in the summer (our winter) its very hot and those mossies are around.
