First Term At Malory Towers : Give this to your little girls!

Advantages: Very readable, enjoyable, imaginative, contains some sensible & good philosophies
Disadvantages: The modern versions of the books are altered to make them politically correct

The set of Malory Towers books was written by Enid Blyton during the post-WW2 part of the 1940s?.I think the final one may have spilled over into 1950. They tell the story of pupil Darrel Rivers? time at the school, from her very first day as a 13-year-old, through to her last, when she leaves at age 18. I read my first Enid Blyton Malory Towers book when I was aged about 9. We?d had a bring & buy sale at my primary school as an end of term activity, and I managed to cop a paperback edition of the 3rd book in the series for the grand sum of one old halfpenny! Later in the evening when at home and in bed (I was supposed to be asleep), I began to read Third Year At Malory Towers, and just couldn?t put the book down ? I read it from cover to cover that night, in secret by torchlight under the blankets, and the next day my mother ...

Review of First Term at Malory Towers - Enid Blyton

Love on the Rocks?

Advantages: A Classic Comedy/Drama.
Disadvantages: None to speak of.

Terms of Endearment was released in 1983, a Comedy/Drama classic which took cinema goers by storm largely due to the remarkable pairing of two brilliant people, Jack Nicholson and Shirley MacLaine an unlikely couple by any stretch of the imagination. The strong casting and inspired screenplay turned the novel by Larry McMutry into the Oscar-winning best film of the year and became a cinema legend. Synopsis ^^^^^^^^^^^^ Aurora Greenway (Shirley MacLaine) is the over-possessive widowed mother of Emma (Debra Winger), their thirty-year relationship a stormy one. When Emma marries the feckless Flap Horton against her mother's wishes and moves away to live in near-poverty with two small sons Aurora is left alone in her large lavish house with an obnoxious neighbour Garrett Breedlove (Jack Nicholson) constantly annoying her. Garrett is ...

Review of Terms Of Endearment (DVD)

City and the Ghost

Advantages: The vocal range on display here is excellent, the guitar hooks sublime.
Disadvantages: If you don't like Fall Out Boy's vocal sound you probably won't like this.

'Life on Life's Terms' is the second studio album from the New Jersey pop rock band that is Bedlight For Blue Eyes. Vocally the sound created by the band here is quite similar to that of Fall Out Boy's Patrick Stump, instrumentally there are guitar hooks a plenty, and the music of Bedlight For Blue Eyes always here is hugely melodic. This album contains twelve tracks and this therefore provides for 44 minutes of music; an album you'll either love or hate dependent upon your thoughts about radio friendly powerpop. Right from the offset here the music of Bedlight For Blue Eyes really makes its mark; opening track 'City and the Ghost' is absolutely fantastic and has a phenomenal chorus to boot. Vocally the sound is excellent here, instrumentally the sound is bouncy and hugely melodic also; Bedlight For Blue Eyes is very much ...
