Victoria, but no Prince Albert

Advantages: Clean, comfortable and friendly
Disadvantages: Traffic noise

I was working down in Cambridge a few weeks ago and the company thoughtfully pre-booked me accommodation at the Victoria Guest House on Arbury road. Rather more thoughtlessly, I was working at the opposite end of the city, so convenience was not their prime consideration. Arbury Road leads off from the inner ring road and is, in fact, relatively handy for the city centre (the north side, at least). Still, I'm getting paid for sitting in a traffic jam, so what do I care? The guest house occupies two former semi-detached Victorian villas in an area of similar houses. It's a fairly busy road and parking is quite limited. As I said, I was pre-booked so it was only a matter of turning up at the door and introducing myself to the owner who was very welcoming. During the course of our chat, he gave me some local info then mentioned there ...

Review of Victoria Guest House

A tale of two cousins

Advantages: First-class acting and a host of star names
Disadvantages: Twp slip-ups in the date department [see review]

Condensing the story of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert into a three-hour film (BBC TV, two parts, August 2001, repeated in one part, September 2002) can have been no easy task. But this star-studded costume drama did the job superbly, leaving this viewer at least with little to criticise. A costume drama needs a good, entertaining story to hook the viewer. The dialogue has to be effective, neither too stilted nor dumbed down into irretrievable silliness. To take a fairly recent example, that abysmal ‘Bertie and Elizabeth’, about King George VI and the Queen Mother, was a classic example of how NOT to do it. If a well-known historical subject is the theme, it should follow the facts as faithfully as it can, bearing in mind that a lengthy story needs to be shoehorned into a comparatively small frame. Last but not ...

Review of Victoria and ALbert

Le meridien Paris

Advantages: spotlessly clean, luxury hotel.
Disadvantages: costs

on and off the trains. Upgrading to first class at a cost (what it cost us) £39 each is well worth it. You get extra leg room, and plenty of extras like champagne, drinks, and a meal. Travelling by taxi to your hotel is somewhat difficult, and you may (like we were) be charged extra for being in a wheelchair, plus extra luggage-a totally unacceptable behaviour. Overall: I would highly recommend this hotel, it is a touch of class, and brings you into a ?special? status. Prices range and they currently have special offers so why not check their web site (stated below) My ratings: Food 5/10 Staff friendliness 9/10 Cleanliness of hotel 10/10 Overall 9/10 Contact details: Le Meridien Montparnasse 19 rue du Commandant Mouchotte, 75014 - Paris, 75014, France www.lemeridien.com Thanks for reading - Dave Example ...
