...cultured countries in Europe and Vienna being its capital is also the capital for classical music. Threfore, there is no surprise that many well-known composers or musicians and some examples are Mozart, Johann Strauss, Hadyn and Schubert. Vienna is all about classical music and beauty with a amazing collection of buildings and architecture. The city lies in the Danube Valley and has been inhibited for thousands of years. The Babenberg dukes took control of the place but they were soon replaced by the Habsburg family. Through carefully planned political marriages, the family became the longest ruling dynastry in Europe. It is also the city where the famous French Queen, Marie Antoinette, a Habsburg was born. A quick dinner at the hotel and a night tour of the city on coach finished the evening.

How Shall One Say, Direktor? … Too Many Notes …
Advantages: A beautiful, fascinating, historic, cultural masterpiece of a place Disadvantages: Time is too short!!
...To understand and appreciate Vienna today it is necessary to understand its history. Austria sits on the eastern European plain, south and east of Germany. It was settled originally by Celtic tribes who were looking for salt (Salzburg means Mountain of Salt) and the Romans had a settlement on the river. Mindful of the threat from the Turks from the East, the German princes gifted this area to the Brabenberg family to run as its fiefdom – which they ... ...legitimacy of his own dynasty. Vienna was the Hapsburg’s family seat. It developed as the family developed. The centre of Vienna was the family Castle (the Hofburg) which slowly grew with the needs of the diplomacy and their entourage. They were divine monarchs (inheritors of the Holy Roman Empire), warlords (rising progressively from Dukedom to Archdukedom to Emperor) defending against the Infidel and Turks, arch diplomats (forging alliances) and ...

Best city to get around and about
Advantages: Cheap, cheerful and always on time Disadvantages: Car system is a bit strange
I found Vienna one of the best places to get around, maybe it might that Vienna itself is quite a small city around 15 miles long.
It has so many modes of transport to choose from, the subway, trams, buses, coaches and railway system (to get around austria) as well mopeds and the good old cycles.
I think the cycles were the best way to get around...what Vienna have done is have cycle stands around the city, what you do is swipe your credit card ... ...the cycle of 2euros per hour, best of all is that you can return the cycle to any other stand in the city so you dont have to cycle back to your original stand. It has cycle routes all around the city and i found it quite a safe mode pf transport.
The public transport system is second to none, i found they were clean and easy to understand despite being in german, the ticket staff were helpful in directions as most could speak english but there ...

Vienna the Jewel of Europe
Advantages: Many to choose from and always something to do Disadvantages: Some are a little pricey
One thing that i found as soon as i landed in Vienna was the friendly people. They would actually go out of there way to make me feel at home, the taxi driver was full of information about the city and was extremly helpful at the the end of the journey where we sat for a couple of minutes and he gave us information on where everything was and things to do around our hotel as well as tips on the pubic transport. The most important of which was that ... ...of the events too look out for is the 'donou fest', a sort of island like weekend of extravgenza. Theres a perment fair with lots of thrilling rides as well as more peacful ones like golf. But i think the best place to is the Town Hall, every weekend they have a diffrent event going on, when i was fortuante enough to visit a couple of months ago they were having a 'classic car show' as well as a ''sports youth event with free public concert''
The ...

Stunning holiday destination
Advantages: Stunning architecture, very cultural and romantic Disadvantages: Little pricey, but no more so than many large European cities
I visited Vienna with my girlfriend in August of this year (2005).
Wow. As a city Vienna is one of the most visually stunning you will see, with amazing architecture throughout the city, especially in the central area, with many buidings echoing classical Greek architecture, impressive isn't the word!
The main central area is comprised of definite 'blocks' which is very handy - the shopping area all sits together (something for everyone, lots of ... ...life is surprisingly quiet - Vienna is very much a daytime city - but there are countless coffee shops to relax in, and sample the famous cakes, coffee etc. The food generally is beautiful (although a little light on vegetarian options as my girlfriend discovered.) The schnitzel and sausages for which Austria is famous don't disappoint.
Travel is easy, with a number of public transport methods available (trams, underground, buses), annd the systemms ...
