The park culminates in the impressive Monolith sculpture, a chaotic 17m tall tangle of interlocking human bodies, carved from a single granite block.
Children and fun-minded adults often have fun trying to count the number of people in the sculpture. As a cheat I can tell you the number is generally agreed to be 121.
As the park itself as well as the over 200 statues was designed by Gustav Vigeland, it is a place of rare harmony and beauty.
You can also enjoy the 'Sinnataggen' statue, to Norwegians the most familiar piece in the park, a toddler throwing a massive tantrum. It's a particularily vivid portrait of a subject familiar to every parent.
'Sinnataggen' is also an example of how famous Norwegian art pieces get stolen on a regular basis. Someone simply walked into the park, sawed his leg off and carried him away. Fortunately he was recovered in a bush in Oslo not long after.
The fact that it is Norway's most visited attraction should perhaps speak for itself. However, if you want to take a sneak peak before visiting just to make sure it will be worthwile, watch the Norwegian film Elling, which features a night time (and I suspect illegal, as it closes at night) visit to the park.
