I am 40 years old and spend time on my PC doing surveys, entering competitions and looking for the best deals on the internet (which I am very good at finding!). I also love travelling, particularly staying at 4-5 star hotels at bargain prices.

This is my third time staying in Albufeira (March 2007). I have previously stayed at the Paraisio and Brisa Sol which are also four star hotels next door to the Vale Gale Cerra Alagoa. Out of all three hotels this is my first choice, followed by the paraisio.
The staff in the hotel speak good english and service was very efficient. I was also give an upgrade to my room. I was put on 2nd floor and got moved to the 3rd floor in a newer room. (the hotel are in the process of modernising all the rooms, so I would recommend you try to get one with at least the number 42 at the end i.e. 142,242,342,44)
The hotel operate on a key card system as opposed to having to carry keys around. I also lost my key card and the staff did not charge me, nor seem unduly worried.
The room itself was large with two twin beds pushed together, with sheets and a bedspread. It was very comfortable though and plenty of spare pillows and blankets
if you got cold. the flooring was wooden panels and the furniture was a dark wood, which all smelt very clean and new. There was a television in the room which showed news channels and childrens channels, however if you swithced it on after 9pm there were english films, programmes showing too. An air conditioning unit was in room, which was not noisy at all.
The bathroom had a hairdrier, bidet, power shower, phone and was fitted out in granite and marble. There wwere also complimentary toiletries and towels were changed daily.
The room had two chairs and a table in and plenty of storage. There was also a large balcony also with chairs and tables.
I only stayed Bed and Breakfast so cannot comment on the dinner at the hotel, however a few people who had ate there said it was very good, albeit the same menu each day!.
The breakfast had several fresh fruit (melon, grape, pineapple, peach, kiwi, pear). Several flavours of yoghurt including coconut which was lovely. There were cold meats, cheeses, breads, pastries, croissants, cinnamon toast and sweet breads. There was jam, marmalade, chocolate spread, honey etc. There was also a full hot buffet too which was very good as well as a choice of 6 cereals. For drinks there was 4 types of fruit juice, water, coffee, tea's both standard and lots of herbal flavours, hot chocolate etc. The breakfast room was big and breakfast was served from 7am until 10.30am.
The hotel had an indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi which you could use for free (you need to take a swimming cap with you, or else you will be charged 2.5 euros to purchase one). There was also a sauna, turkish bath, and gym which was at a cost of 7.5 euros a day. Massage and treatments were on site too at average rates.
There was a lounge area with a large flatscreen television in and bookcases where you could borrow books to read. There was also a seperate Dog and Duck pub which I thought was really nice. It was cosy and had a small dancefloor and there was entertainment shown nightly at 9.30pm. (bingo, dance troupe show, accordian player, karaoke, saxophonist).
The hotel has a large outdoor swimming pool and reasonably sized grounds. There are plenty of free sunbeds and an outdoor terrace too. This area was clean and well kept and I certainly enjoyed sunbathing there.
The hotel is in an excellent location between the old town and new town (referred to as The Strip). Opositte the hotel there were KFC, Mcdonalds, Pizza (english fast food type places).
There is a "Noddy Bus" directly outside the hotel, which takes people to either he strip, old town or beach for 2 euros or 1 if your over 60 yrs. The hotel does also offer a free shuttle bus which isn't mentioned unless you ask. They also offer a free bus to Algarve Shopping Centre, but again you need to ask this too.
The old town is reached down a narrow cobbled road (10 minutes walk). There you will find an array of restaurants and I recommend you explore the side streets as opposed to the ones in the actual square as there are some real traditional portugese places that offer excellent food and good prices.
The new town (The Strip) is a very long road with many tacky bars, restaurants and shops on. It was the place where the footballers wrecked it some years ago. I find the whole neon light, blaring music and english type pubs a real turn off. I would definately recommend to avoid this.
Having read some of the previous reviews about the rooms, I can only assume that people got given the older type rooms.
Overall I would highly recommend this hotel and I paid just £206 for flight and 8 nights accommodation on a B*B basis in march.
