Personally we have stayed in their hotels as follows, Vila Gale Marina, Vila Gale Ampalius, both in Villamoura, on the Algarve. Vila Gale Tavira also on the Algarve and then last week Vila Gale Santa Cruz, Madeira.
I can recommend all of the above, but the Santa Cruz is the newest and modernist of all.
The reception is a vast expanse of glass, marble and big soft sofas and a view of the ocean, just for good measure. It somewhat reminds you of the old Art novo cinemas.
Staff on reception where very polite and speak better English then I do Portuguese, excellent.
The main areas of the hotel are all on -1 level, with magnificent views of the sea which is only 150 yards away.
The restaurants have the same view, so does the fitness room, pools and Jacuzzi.
There are two outside pools, one for children, with the same stunning view. A large floor chess game outside for your use, great fun moving a piece and then seeing if someone else makes the next move.
The rooms are very well furnished, and the bathrooms are black and white marble very well presented and finished. We paid extra for a sea view, which was great as we had the sunrise from our windows. You can pay an extra rate for a full sea view where your room is on the end of the hotel with a panoramic view.
Breakfast, we had booked just bed and breakfast was excellent, we even had a cook who would cook on the spot, fried eggs, omelet, crisp up your bacon or boil you an egg, now that is what I call being spoilt. We could not fault it in any way.
One of the disadvantages of the hotel being at Santa Cruz is it's proximity to the airport. Our room also had a view of the runway, but we only heard the plains when they took off our end of the runway due to the wind change. We didn't find it too bothersome.
Another point in Santa Cruz favor was that they had a shuttle bus from the hotel into Funchal which run from 8-00am till 5-30pm each day at no extra cost, but you had to make sure you booked as it's only a 15 seats, again excellent.
We would fully recommend this hotel for your visit to the island.
