...Firenze is definitively my favourite city in Italy, amongst the 3 major tourist attractions, Venice, Rome and Florence. Spring and early autumns are to me, the best periods to visit it, while I would discourage going there in the middle of summer, when the city is very hot (and can be nearly suffocating when it gets really scorching in August) and the majority of people there are tourists. There is no need here to describe the monuments in the city, I would give you a couple of places to stay, instead. You can try Campeggio Panoramico, which is not in Florence, but in Fiesole, not far from the City. They rent bungalows there. It may be a good idea to book in advance, their tel is 599069. For less than £30 for a double per night, you can stay at “Hotel La Romagnola”, not far from Santa Maria Novella. Rooms are clean and decent. Their tel...

Advantages: Nice location, plenty of facilities Disadvantages: Expensive, unfriendly, very uncomfortable for camping in a tent
...Camping Panoramico Fiesole is over priced and over-regulated. More expensive than the average youth hostel is abroad, the ground is so hard it is impossible to even break the surface with a tent peg. The ground is also very stony and therefore deeply uncomfortable unless you have an air-bed or similar. Don't plan on camping unless you have something to weigh your tent down with!
For those who do not enjoy camping in tents, there is the facility for taking a caravan/campervan or renting a bungalow, but I do not know whether this option is good value for money in terms of quality.
The campsite facilities are relatively decent, quite clean but not really of the standard one would expect for the money you pay. There is access to a free ironing room and reception states that you can recharge your mobile for free, although it appears...

...' Medici Villa in Rome to the Uffizi.
You will discover some of the finest Renaissance art in the world in the Uffizi gallery. There is one huge room which houses the work of Sandro Botticelli (1445-1510) including his much admired Birth of Venus, The Magnificat Madonna, Portrait of Lucrezia and Primavera. Besides the works of Botticelli, the Gallery has halls devoted to the likes of Giotto and the Tuscan primitives, to the Sienese School of the 14th century and to Antonio and Pietro Pollaiolo.
The National Museum of the Bargello houses a priceless collection of Tuscan Renaissance sculptures by Cellini, Giambologna and Verrocchio as well as some of Michelangelo's early works such as his bust of Brutus (1504).
You could spend days touring the art galleries and museums of Florence but you must reserve some time for visiting the Duomo...
