I have just returned from a wonderful week in Gozo staying at the Villag Tal Fanal. The complex is very nice, is clean, with a lovely pool and tidy accommodation. But:
If you want a sun lounger by the pool, forget it!! They're already covered in towels owned by the Maltese, Gozitans, and Italians that frequent the complex. One night we got back from a meal at 1230 am to find that every sun lounger was covered by a towel.
If you want to walk to the shop, forget it!! You'll need a car. If you want to go for a meal or a drink in the evening, you'll need a car.
If you are going with kids over the age of 7 or 8, you'll be hard pressed to keep them amused after 6pm as there is absolutely nothing to do on site. If you want to watch the satellite TV, forget it!! It's tuned to italian channels, the english ones are inaccessable.
Don't get me wrong...the place is gorgeous. But not for a family holiday where kids are going. If you are going with older kids I suggest you take a DVD player or something similar to keep them amused.
We realised all this after day two.....
From then on we spent most of our days at the lovely Ramla Bay (5 euros for a sun bed, 3 euros for a parasol, lovely sandy beach with stunning views). Returning to the complex by early evening, getting showered then getting back in the car and going for a meal (can recommend Brookies, five minute drive away, great menu, and english sattelite kids channels laid on for the younger members). We tried to stay out till as late as we could, then returned to the complex to sleep.
In summary, the photos that you find on the net are spot on, the place is picturesque, but if you're a family going, you'll be bored!!!
