My stay at the vincci conal mar was bizarre, very impressed with the appearance of the hotel, practically brand new, completely round, and very impressive on the eye.
after leaving the airport,it was a 20 minute ride in a taxi, approx 25 euro, the area surrounding the hotel is quite residential/ rundown industrial estate which was off putting to start with and not the kind of place i wanted to walk through late at night, the area is called diagonal mar, and is served by regualr bus services and a brand new metro service, the area seems up and coming and the new apartments, shopping centre and hilton hotel certainly comfound this. the rooms are nice, spacious, and substancial discounts are to be had if you book via the hotels website - we got a 60% off infact! you are about 15 minutes on the metro away from downtown barcelona ...
Today I'm going to write about the city where i have lived all my live: Valladolid.
Valladolid has more or less 320.000 inhabitants and is the capital of the Spanish state of "Castilla-León" It's in the north part of the country, less than 200 km from Madrid.
It's both an industrial and cultural capital and presents a very well preserved historical center with very significant buildings and churches from the Golden Spanish Age, many of them from the Renaissance. Actually Valladolid was the capital of the Old Spanish Empire during the XVIth century (until 1559 and again from 1601 to 1606, precisely). It was as well one of the cities where the Castilian writer Cervantes (the writer of "Don Quijote de La Mancha") lived.

We flew with Kathargo Airlines from Edinburgh to Monastir. The flight time is about 3 and a half hours. The airline was very basic with no in flight entertainment and the usual meals were served. The aircraft was obviuosly quite old with shabby seats and trays that didn't work or were broken. If on a Boeing 737 then don't sit near the centre of the plane (seat 12 to 14) as the legroom is quite ridiculous!
On Arrival at Monastir be prepared for long queues whilst you go through immigration. After collecting your baggage don't worry about finding your coach, as there'll be a willing porter ready to whisk you and your luggage off to the desired coach park.
