Advantages: Cheap shopping, culture, fun! Disadvantages: Can be stressful!
...of New York cheese cake can fill you up for an entire day, and a slice of pizza will be about the size of a whole small pizza in the UK. That said, food and drink in New York is an interesting experience.
Ill start with breakfast. The best place to go for breakfast is to a diner outside of Manhattan. A realNew York diner. Youll pay a couple of dollars for a meal that will keep you going until mid afternoon, and the choice is great, although unconventional. You can have sweet pancakes or waffles with flavoured butter, meat, strawberries, syrup, melon, or a combination of the above. Its not unusual to see Americans eating strawberry and sausage pancakes. I kid you not. You could also try home fries, a funny combination of potato, onion and goodness knows what else. They taste pretty good. As with any meal in the States, you can always get...

...were lucky enough to see everywhere. The guide also explained a lot about the workings of the UN, and things like it's peacekeeping force. I found the whole experience really moving, to be in the places where such influential people meet and talk. I would highly recommend any trip to NY involve a visit to the UN.
Shopping
I'm not a big shopper, bit I felt that I needed to have a look at some of the big name places that New York has to offer, so I spent a little while wondering around Macy's and Saks 5th Avenue. It is fair to say that everything was out of my price range, but it is fun to see what there is on offer. For the more discerning shopper, I'm sure New York could keep you busy for a good while!
Walking
I spent a lot of time walking around NY. As I have said I wanted to see a bit of the 'real' NewYork, so I walked through...

This is a review in progress. I attempted to include as much as possible, but intend to add on from time to time.
ATTRACTIONS - MANHATTAN VIEW FROM THE WATER
New York offers several tourist attractions by which Manhattan can be viewed from the water, such as the Circle Line (3 hour trip around Manhattan island) and the Ellis Island Ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The downside to this is the price.
If you are on a budget and are not desperate to stand on the same soil as the Statue of Liberty...

The New Yorker is in an excellent midtown location with the subway (lines A, C & E) literally steps outside. Being on the corner of 8th Avenue and 34th Street this meant good access to Macy's, Empire State Building, Madison Square Gardens and the... more
Postmodernism, eh? It's a funny old bag of fish. Even the holier-than-thou critics don't quite seem to know what it's all about. They argue whether it's
a) a revolt against modernism,
b) a progression of modernism,
c) both of these and more
or d) more
If you want to stay in Central New York then this is the hotel to book. It is actually IN Times Square! It's a huge modern hotel with over 45 floors so some of the views are great. There is a bar at the top which is a lovely place to have a drink,... more
