My family and I travelled Virgin upper class to Antigua recently from Gatwick. The clubhouse was great and really relaxed us before the long flight. I was really deflated when we boarded, our plane must have been the oldest one in the fleet. It was bland and had no wow factor at all. I didnt feel much better when told by a stewardess that similar planes had been upgraded upto three times the standard ours was - great!! We found the cabin staff grumpy and unfriendly (maybe they had a bad day on both occasions)and I do remember thinking that maybe they thought they should be sat where we were siiting. Are they employed to just look good or is it too much to ask for a little help - especially with two children. We all felt everything was just too much trouble. I honestly think that a lot of 1st class cabins are full of stuck up old farts, that think you should just sit there with your head in a book or just fall asleep. Wrong, we all pay the same amount to travel 1st class - we do not have to behave like we are sitting in the doctors surgery. A few laughs here and there surely is permitted. My advice is, if you are youngish and want to splash out on the little luxuries in life, then either check what cabin you are getting in upper class or just find an alternative airline.
