What is the FVC?

Although this is not an actual airmiles club I feel that this opinion is best categorised under 'Virgin Freeway' as it is still regarded as a frequent flyer club and combines with Virgin Atlantics Airmiles Programme.
I presume many of you may not be aware of the benefits or features of this club, or indeed what it actually is therefore I hope this opinion helps you consider booking with Virgin in the future.....
What is the FVC? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The frequent Virgin Club is a Virgin Freeway type club run by Virgin Holidays. You can become a member of the club once you have booked your third holiday with Virgin and then your are entitled to many of the benefits the club has to offer. (Also if you have already been on two holidays and you have just booked your 3rd, you are also entitled to join as long as your application is processed before your holiday departure date!!)
Whats great about the FVC? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After becoming a frequent Virgin you are entitled to a 10% discount from the total of your booking. This for me is a big saving, as I normally travel as a party of 4 adults and as you can imagine 10% off a long haul holiday can be quite an ammount. The discount is also applicable on extra travel items such as airport hotels and car parking, excursions and park tickets such as Disney and Universal. Again giving an excellent saving adn giving you more money to actually spend on your holiday, i .e all that duty free shopping!
If hiring a car in your resort, as a FVC you are also entitled to a free car upgrade. On a recent holiday to Orlando we should have only been allocated an 'economy 4-door' (which was apprently equivilent to a Vauxhall Corsa) but to our delight on arrival we were given a spacious 4 -door Dodge Stratus to cruise around Orlando in, all courtesy of the FVC!
For me one of the best benefits is the free room upgrades and added extras you recieve on arrival at your resort. After a long and tiring flight to LA recently we were delighted to find that on check-in we were allocated an upgraded 'superior' room. An extra benefit was that when we entered our room we were greated with a lovely complimentary bowl of fruit and chilled wine, again due to our FVC membership. We felt like celebrities!
Correspondance between Virgin and myself is now very good as all FV members recieve regular newsletters to keep you up-to-date on all the latest offers. Each year they also organise a tour for FV members only, although I haven't yet par-taked on one of these tours I hear they are actioned packed and are particularly good for meeting new people especially if travelling alone.
For me, the final benefit of the club is that there is a dedicated phone line so it is much easier to speak to the staff at the call centre. One of the worst things for me about trying to book a holiday is been put on hold for 20mins listening to 'thank you for holding, your call is important to us.....etc....etc!!! On this line my calls have always been answered quickly and efficiently by helpful staff and even the hold music is modern (generally the person has answered the phone and I am still singing along!!)
How do you join the FVC? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It is easy to become a member, you can either call Virgin Holidays direct who will then send you a form like I did or I beleive you can also apply on-line at www.virginholidays.com. My application took about 6weeks to process so I would advise to apply at least 2 months before the date you are planning to travel to ensure you get that hefty discount!!
Summary ~~~~~~~~~ I really can't think of a bad thing to say about this club. Virgin tends to have a good loyalty base anyway and I know I would continue to book with them regardless as to whether they had such a club. However, I feel that the FVC offers a little extra to your holiday and think it is a nice way to reward loyal customers. To be honest if you fly Virgin, you really have nothing to loose by joining this club so go get that application form and start enjoying the savings!
Advantages: Get free tickets, easy. Very easy to use and check up on it as well. Disadvantages: There is an expiry date to your points, but that's a long long time into the future, I assure you
I have joined the Virgin Frequent Travellers Programme from the recommendation of my boyfriend, and I didn't believe how easy it was to earn free tickets through this programme. He has already earned two Single Tickets to HK, although he has made quite a few trips in the last few years, but trust me when I say easy, I just made one return trip to HK and have earned myself a return ticket to Athens.
The programme works by accumulating points on your ... ...travelling with Virgin Atlantic, and numerous of it's partner companies like Singapore Airlines, Hertz car rentals, etc, etc. Normally they give you points for each mile you fly, so the further you go, naturally you get more points to spend. You get much higher points you're rich enough to travel premium or first class, well that's obvious why.
Anyway, the thing is that it's really easy to apply, they send enough flyers all around the place, otherwise ...

During the 1990s I travelled several times a year to the USA and often used Virgin. Prime reason was the availability of cheap or good-value fares. Naturally I signed up to the Frequent Traveller Programme, "Freeway".
The miles mount up in economy according the actual miles flown. Although I never flew in the business or first class cabins, I believe that bonus miles are added. Miles are earned from in-cabin purchases and from a web of Freeway partners ... ...is the very wide range of rewards for which miles can be encashed. Airline tickets - of course. But also Eurostar , balloon flights, hotel bookings, cruise lines, driving experience courses and much more.
The airline experience itself has usually been very good. Clean cabins, reasonable food and drink (for economy), fairly good timekeeping, eager and lively staff (if not always as experienced as one might like) and a generally up-beat atmosphere. ...
