Me and my husband had a week long holiday in Barbados this October. Although hurricanes in September gave us the chills, wheather was perfect while we were there. Our experience with Virgin Holidays was five star from booking to coming back home.
Booking: I booked the holidays on the internet and it was very easy. Website has a very good layout and easy to use. Resort description was very truthful and staring was appropriate. Virgin does a lot of deals in low season and for the same dates and same resort we saved more than £200 by booking with Virgin instead of BA Holidays. Ah, web exclusive deals were better too. They usually use the same hotels so it's worth checking them both for long haul holidays. You can also buy excursions and dinner shows included in your package which we didn't since we want to have an idea about the island first. Transfers to hotel/ airport were all included so there were no hidden costs to booking. Travel insurance they offer is expensive though, i think it's better to shop arround.
Check-in: With Vigin Atlantic, you can either check in on the internet or at the airport the day before your flight. This was a great opportunity since we stayed at a hotel nearby Gatwick and dropping luggages the day before ment we started our holiday that evening and came in the morning very light and spent the rest of the waiting time in dutyfree instead of queueing for ages.
Flight: We flew standard economy class both ways but paid extra and got some extra legroom on the way back. Legroom in the plane is alright for an ordinary person (I'm 5'3) but not good enough for anybody above 6'. So you can buy those seats in front of the emergency exits etc for about £45. In flight entertainment is great, everybody has their own screen behind the seat in front of you and you can choose from 50 films, lots of comedy/ drams etc. There are video ganes for kids as well. It's guarantied that you'll not be bored.
Hotel: This is probably another review topic so I'll mention shortly. It matched the expectations given by the Virgin Holidays, The rep (Maria) was very sweet and helpful. She was going through the same introduction and explanations every day because of Virgin's daily arrivals but she managed to smile and have a chit chat with everybody as well.
Check in and chill out: This is another great service that Virgin gives. It means, you don't have to queue for luggages, they come to your hotel the same day of your flight in the morning, take them, book your seat etc, then you can chill out until late at the hotel. It saves you hours of precious holiday time.
Hope this has been helpful, happy holidays!
