Well after a very early start on the morning of departure we arrived at gatwick aiport at 7 am. We had to be there 3 hours b4 checkin. We arrived and me up with the rest of the party as we were getting married abroad and there were 10 of us in the party.
We arrived at the check in desk. Now this is where it became a slight problem. as i still had my maiden name i had to check in my parents and my hubby to be had to check in with his parents. But i also had my two children who are 8 & 9 by a previous relationship who had different surnames. The had to be checked in separetly. I was getting a bit panicky at this point because that would of meant that they would be sat on there own. I asked the lady and she that we could swap all the seats about once we were on the plane. anyway after a long 3 hours we finally got called through to departure lounge. This was a bit of a pain because we had to wait for first class and premium economy to go first and then it was children under 4 and disabled people, then us. anyway all was fine we got on the plane and we had bags of goodies on our seats, Adults bags contained toothbrushes, toothpaste (little) tissues, eyemask and earplugs oh also a notepad and pen. Children had a ruckscak with colouring pens and books, hats and reading books. The staff were really friendly but very busy. We had to wait a while for a drink, but not long after take off we had lunch which was ok. Adults had 3 chocies, chicken korma, beef or vegertarian. I had korma, it was quite dry but not horrible it just wasnt for me. The kids meals were lovely they had sausage and mash, with lots of gravy. Also, they had a cake some juice and some sweets. The puddings were all the same a chocolate mousse.
We were served tea and coffee which again wasnt very often but the staff were run off there feet.
We had afternoon tea served which was rolls which you had 3 choices again. Vey nice.
By the time we were due to land my little boy cut his ankle, and the staff helped by giving me some plasters for him and enough to get me to the hotel at the other end.
We landed 8 hours later after what seemed a lifetime. The only problem with economy is leg room or lack of it! I noticed in premium economy that the row of seats in front is removed thus giving you more leg room. (ok if you have the money!)
Anyway as soon as we landed we had to wait for the rest of the plane to get off b4 us economy people could.
I would recommend virgin atlantic, i found them to be very helpful and polite. They really look after you and it is the little extras that make your holiday start off lovely.
