I like the Virgin brand. The record stores, the radio station, even the cola. As awful as the current train service is, I also like the trains.
What most people don't realise is that Virgin's poor record, in most cases is not actually the fault of Virgin. I frequently travel with Virgin, and the most of the time, the trains arer within 30 minutes of their scheduled time.
On a couple of recent occasions we have been delayed for one reason or another. On these occasions, the staff have been helpful, good at communicating, and most of all continue to be cheery despite the amount of abuse they seem to receive.
Yes, it's fustrating when things don't go to plan, but 9 times out of 10, people should be blaming Railtrack, not Virgin. My suspicion at the large percentage of Virgin trains which run late is due to the fact that most of the routes Virgin serve are long distance, therefore there are more places whrere the train is likely to get held up.
Value wise, I think Virgin is ahead of the lot. Providing you book 14 days in advance, there are some very cheap fares around - the Virgin Value from Edinburgh to Birmingham, for example is £16.50 return - pretty good I think.
In my opinion, you can tell a lot of a company by the level of customer service provided. And in my opinion, with Virgin, this is high.

I have only used virgin trains once, when they double booked our seats. They then upgraded us to first class, where we were all seperated, and to be honest it wasn't much better than standard class. We will be travelling again with them soon (JULY) Hope things have improved a bit by then.

Review of Virgin Trains
Advantages: Pleasent Staff, always there to help! Disadvantages: No leg room, very dated, uncomfortable seating, and not enough space to put your luggage.
