Marathon runner, fell runner, professional accountant, and trainee beauty therapist! Tanned toned, waxed, bleached, and even sporting a navel bar, and taste for ridiculous/uncomfortable clothes.

Virgin is progressively introducing a fleet of new trains, the exterior is sleek, and space age. Inside uncomfortable narrow seats have been crammed in, without any regard to window view, passenger comfort, luggage space, and the assumption that all passengers will want 'plug in entertainment' seems to sum up the image of this company. When things go wrong, they cancel services, and expect customers to write to complain before issuing refunds. For business travel, they charge ridiculous prices, for leisure travel to obtain cheap fares, you have to book months in advance. Avoiding Virgin when travelling long distance seems to be a good idea, other train operating companies such as GNER, Midland Main Line and First Great Western provide a far superior product at a fraction of the price.

The painful experience consists of seeing them making the mistake of ordering new trains which are too small, and badly designed inside, and then attempting to introduce them with the false claim its a service improvement. I've never travelled by Pendolino or Voyager, although I've embarked on both types of train and left having concluded the reality is as bad as my pre-conceptions. To my mind, Virgin are obsessed with shiny plastic toys, and the pendolino's and voyagers are best dismissed as such. Had the money Virgin have wasted on these foul objects been spent instead on new high speed diesel and electric locomotives, and hauled coaches which can be flexibly formed into sets ranging from four to twelve coaches as required, preferably with a push-pull capability, proper luggage space, space for bicycles, and less seats per coach with all seats aligned with windows (like they are on the old trains which have been taken out of service for being 'old fashioned and bad for virgin's image'), I would be prepared to travel with Virgin. As things currently are, Im not, and will go to almost any lengths to avoid them getting any of my money. This includes not buying tickets from their stations (they get 5%, even if I dont travel with them), buying operator specific non virgin tickets where available, etc...
Incidentally will someone tell me how I can edit a review once I've made it rather than adding comments to it?

You wrote more in your comment on my review than you did in your own review! Good first opinion but maybe more about your experiences, painful as it is! You know my opinion on them Grrrrrr....

Review of Virgin Trains
Advantages: Pleasent Staff, always there to help! Disadvantages: No leg room, very dated, uncomfortable seating, and not enough space to put your luggage.
