Advantages: Nice Hotel, rooms cleanand located in centre of town, and cheap Disadvantages: Noisy, you can clearly hear bars and clubs till the small hours, food average
We stayed at the Mar de Cortez, February 2006. The rooms could be described as outdated, no television, kettle etc but large enough and probably about the cheapest you can get in Cabo! There is a pool, but while we were there it wasn't heated and water very cold. Major advantage of Mar de Cortez is it is in the centre of town, about five minutes walk to the Marina, good restaurants and bars etc. This is also a downfall, if you have an early rise, to go fishing etc. you will be aware of the loud noises coming from the clubs and bars that stay open until the early hours of the morning. The Mar de Cortez has a bar in it, but it wasn't very inviting, a good place to meet up before heading out somewhere else, and meeting up at the end of the night for a night cap. We tended to eat out of the hotel most of the time and only had breakfast in ...
Advantages: Whale watching and other sea life Disadvantages: Everything else!
A Mexican friend recommended Los Cabos when I asked him what parts of Mexico I should see. I acually stayed a little down the coast and "commuted" into CaboSanLucas.
Those who wish to see something of Mexican culture definitely shouldn't come here. The place is basically a port for rich (mainly American) boat owners. To get to a beach, you either have to take a water taxi, or drive down the coast. That's right, no beaches in the town itself. Just the marina.
One day I did take a water taxi (relatively expensive) to the beach, where the surf was pretty rough and the water cold. It was a pretty beach, though and the taxi included a mini tour (in Spanish). I also went diving around Pelican ...
Advantages: Good service, and amenities Disadvantages: A long way from anything
Embassy Suites
On a recent visit to California, I was booked into this hotel because it was close to places I had to visit for work.
The hotel itself is only a short drive from the airport (it took about half an hour in a hire car, and not knowing where I was going) and is located in La Jolla which is apparently quite an affluent area, featuring banks and houses and hotels as well as restaurants and a rather nice shopping mall.
It's easy to drive into the hotel and should you ask for it there is valet parking in the high rise car park, but I just parked round the back of the hotel.
Once inside the hotel, check in was quick and efficient and I was immediately impressed with the well set out entrance lobby featuring some nice little touches such as plentiful flowers. The reception desk is large and well staffed and also in ...
