Riu Yucatan Mexico.
We stayed here last year and to be honest it was a fairly decent hotel.
In need of a little TLC but otherwise Not bad.
Trip from the airport takes about 40 minutes and you see some deprived areas, not a pleasant start to your holiday and you eventually reach the high gated communities which contain the multitude of 3, 4 and 5 star hotels.
You are now in PlayadelCarmen.
The hotel is one of the Riu brand and just down the beach from Its superior neighbour The Riu Palace and similarly just over the road is the hotels sister the Tequila and a little up the road the Riu Playacar.
Situated right on the beach the hotel has a prime location but beware there is not all that much shade on the beach as the static palm leaved sunshade often have holes in them as so you will find yourself ...
Advantages: Great weather Disadvantages: 5th Avenue is oh so touristy
PlayadelCarmen, about 45 minutes from Cancun, is a beach resort on the Mexican Riviera Maya. It is supposed to be what Cancun was like 20 years ago - quaint, friendly, less-touristy. I never made it into the hotel zone at Cancun but if what they say is true, I dread to think what Cancun is like because Playa is essentially Blackpool-meets-Benidorm. It's fab.
I came to Playa to do a month long teacher training course with the intention of staying for a year afterwards. But things don't always work out like you've planned and I left a month later to take up my current job in Mexico City. That said, even with only a month in Playa under my belt, I still stayed twice as long as most British visitors in a single trip.
*** Getting Here ***
Playa is one of the main destinations for tourists arriving by plane in Cancun so there are ...
Advantages: Centrally located, great staff, great apartments. Disadvantages: None
PlayaDel Ingles in Gran Canaria.....what a place! i love it there, even though i've only ever been twice in my whole life if i could afford to go every year this is the place i'd go, well here and Salou ;)
I recently went to PDI (short for PlayaDel Ingles) in July 2007 for 2 weeks, with my young daughter who's 6 and my mum (don't ask lol), we were booked into the Jardin Del Sol appartments, obviously i did abit of research beforehand as i like to know what to expect when traveling with my daughter and the reviews i read were ok, like with most reviews you'll get some great ones and some not so great, where ever you stay it all depends on the person and what you yourself make of the place, but here's my 2 pence worth anyway.
It was roughly a 15 minute coach ride, possibly abit faster if your in a taxi from the airport in Las ...
