Advantages: A great way to see some of the most spectacular scenery Norway has to offer Disadvantages: On a foggy day, you won't see much!
, the highest station on the Bergen line. From there, you take the Flåm railway line down the Flåm valley. This railway line has been described as one of the most beautiful train rides in the world. It goes from the Finse station to the fjord in just 20 km, all the way accompanied by mountains and waterfalls. Breathtaking!
Next up is a fjord cruise which will take you from the Aurlandsfjord and through Nærøyfjord, the narrowest fjord in Norway. The dramatic scenery, with huge mountains climbing straight out of the fjord, makes you wonder what happens to the tiny little houses in the winter.
The ship docs in Gudvangen, where a bus will take you up the spectacular Stalheimskleivane, which with its hairpin bends, is not for those afraid of heights. Try to focus on the scenery! The bus drops you of in Voss, where a train takes you to Bergen ...

Advantages: Cheap way to visit the Fjords Disadvantages: V expensive when you get there!
a single course pasta meal with water, which came to over £20. We did manage to find some small cafes the next day which were slightly cheaper though, so it's worth having a good scout around!

The crossing back to Newcastle gave us more time to relax and unwind, which was great as we usually come back from sight seeing weekends exhausted and in need of another weekend away to relax! This time by the time we got back to Newcastle we were relaxed & revived & ready for the week ahead!
All in all we had a great time, but I can see how the words 'mini ...

Advantages: relaxing way to travel, great value transport, beautiful destination Disadvantages: Prices on board ship
-inducing canteen food for the equivalent of a fiver. You have been warned.
Food aside, the cruise was fine. We docked on time at about 9pm on the Sunday and had an evening stroll around the beautiful city of Bergen. The proximity of the port and the city is fantastic, it really a five minute walk from the ship to the centre of Bergen.
We admired Bergen by night, had a pint in a Norwegian local and generally got our bearings to prepare us for the next day. You can get back on the boat at any point during the night (some poor soul has to stand outside checking passports in temperatures of minus 10 for this purpose) but we made it back for about midnight.
The atmosphere on the boat when it?s docked is a lot more peaceful. We joined a few fellow English travellers in the bar and listened to a pianist from Voss while we enjoyed a few pints after ...
