Just turned 50, not in full-time work (by choice!); children now quite grown up, 21 and 17. I earn a modest amount of money mystery shopping, and have just started a writing course. Interests: reading, local history, family research, walking, gardening.

My husband and I travelled with Voyages Jules Verne (VJV) in June to Limone, on Lake Garda in Italy, a lovely resort, with fantastic scenery. We were not impressed with VJV and as well as completing their questionnaire when we left, I wrote a detailed letter outlining the issues which we had various aspects of the holiday. These included several problems with the supposedly 4-star hotel (probably would get 2 stars at most in the UK) - Butlins-style restaurant, mediocre food, no porters, 'tired' decor, English channels on TV not working, tiny single beds, no information, run on a shoestring.... We talked to the tour rep on one of the excursions and he said he'd passed on lots of complaints to the hotel and in fact the hotel had now 'banned' him, and it would probably not feature in VJV's brochure next year! There were other problems too, coaches were over-crowded on two occasions (invalidates insurance I think), and the flight out was on a very ancient plane. I detailed at least 10 issues in my letter to VJV and had a reply this week in which they referred to only 2 of them, and sent a paltry £50 voucher, assuring me that client satisfaction is of paramount importance and expressing the hope that we would book with them again!
There was little information prior to the trip, no indication of transfer times to/from airport, no rep in the hotel (presumably because he'd been banned, as mentioned above!).
On the plus side, the tour rep was quite good, and the excursions were OK, we booked in advance, but they changed the days without prior warning, which meant we had two very long days one after the other, we wouldn't have chosen that. They do offer some tempting trips and probably if you're lucky with the hotel it would be a good holiday, but judging from our experience, they don't really care whether customers are satisfied or not and don't welcome feedback.
