I have mixed feelings about this hotel. In all fairness, when I visited the lobby was under renovations. This was not a problem for me.
What was a problem was that I requested and confirmed two double beds. When I checked in I was told I was getting one king bed. Obviously, depending upon your travelling companion this could be a problem. I was not the only guest to suffer this calamity. Others were arguing over it when I arrived.
The girl at the front desk chastised me for using an on-line reservation service. Incidentally, this is what I always use. I have never had a problem at any other hotel. I had called THE W HOTEL personally and confirmed the bed configuration. (It is always a good idea to call the HOTEL and confirm everything). I told the desk clerk this. We argued briefly. Then, she said, “Well, if you don’t like it you can try to rent another room someplace else”. In NYC---at the last minute---I don’t think so! She offered to send up a rollaway bed and said, “take it or leave it”. So, I took it. I don’t know if it’s just me, but at $250.00 a night a “cot” is not my idea of my money’s worth.
There was no bellhop. When I arrived upstairs, there was a lovely chaise lounge in the room. I opted to sleep on it and cancelled the rollaway bed. The room had a mini-bar (high-priced) and web-TV. The décor was an interesting modern Mediterranean. The bath amenities were excellent.
During our stay, a taxicab door bashed into my too-tall travelling companion’s head. That evening, a lump and severe headache ensued. I called the front desk, explained the situation and requested ice. I was not impressed by the 20-minute wait for the ice to arrive under the circumstances.
Housekeeping staff was very helpful. The complimentary continental breakfast (coffee and limited assortment of donuts) left something to be desired.
At checkout, the same desk clerk was very pleasant. A distinguished gentleman guest was irate because he went out and returned with a guest to a room that had not been cleaned. If push came to shove, I would stay at the W HOTEL again. It would not be my first choice.

I go to NY every year, and so far the best hotel I have found is Best Western Woodward hotel and I always book my hotels online, so I'll stear clear of this one, good op, Cheryl x
