Advantages: Lovely treatment, very relaxing Disadvantages: No pool
Last week Mr Tart and I celebrated the first anniversary of our meeting. I was waiting with bated breath to see what might present he might have got me. He?s been amazing at getting me just the right thing so far so I was feeling hopeful. He arrived at mine with some champagne, smoked salmon and a card in a fancy present bag. Good start I thought. I opened the card, nothing fell out but there was a note, saying ?you?re probably wondering where your present is, well I?m taking you to Swindon to throw mud at you?. Hm, interesting! After further investigation I found out that he was taking us to a spa in Swindon for a joint treatment. Well done Mr Tart!

Advantages: Feels safe. Clean. Good for a daytrip to relieve the monotony. Disadvantages: It's only a town - no scenery.
Male is the capital of the Maldives - a chain of islands which straddle the Equator, west of India, and about one hour by air from Sri Lanka, a country with which it is often twinned in the two centre holiday market.
See from the air, Male seems curiously crowded, being an almost square island, packed to the edges with buildings, in fact its about 2km by 2km, and everyone owns a car! Arriving there by boat, (it's too small to sacrifice land for an airport), it bustles with life. The market is a friendly affair and free samples of Maldivian produce abound (at least they do if you have an official guide). If you visit the Mosque don't forget polite dress code - no shorts etc, although they will oblige and lend you a sarong (and very nice I looked in it too!). Souvenirs aren't up to much, but it's a working town, so what do you expect ...

I booked a one-nght spa break for my sister and I for her 40th birthday for £200 (it was a 2-1 from lastminute.com). When we arrived we were told that there were no treatments available, including the one we'd paid for as part of our package. That could only be provided at 10.30am the next day - with a check out time of 11am. As we'd already made plans to be somewhere at 11.30 we couldn't take that up anyway. The spa Manager was a little off when we expressed our disappointment, but this was nothing compared to the Duty Manager who was extremely rude when my sister complained. She was shouting and very aggressive, basically saying that because we'd booked through lastminute.com we were second class guests.
