Texel: the largest of the Dutch Wadden Islands

Advantages: Easy to reach from the mainland
Disadvantages: Some areas are overcrowded with tourists in the summer

...looking for a peaceful holiday, Texel in the months July and August is definitely not the place to be. Although the mass tourism concentrates in the western part of the island (De Koog-area), is's hard to find some quiet spots in these months. Besides that, if you're going there by car, you'll be confronted with large waiting times and delays at the ferry. The eastern part (the Wadden side) is all year long much quieter, with the possible exception ...
...the best time to visit Texel is (late) Spring or (early) Autumn. Like the other islands Texel is ideal for cyclists, although it has less special cycling paths than the others. If you're only looking for a brief acquaintance with Texel and the other Wadden Islands, you might enjoy island hopping with special cycling tour operators like wadfietsen.nl or fiets-fun.nl (fiets is Dutch for bycicle). But even with a short stay: don't forget to visit ...

Terschelling: island with two faces

Advantages: Largest beach of the Wadden
Disadvantages: Sometimes overcrowded (Oerol-festival!)

Terschelling has two advantages: it's villages are small-scaled and the island has something to offer for everybody. Sun lovers will enjoy the broad beach along the north coast, cyclists will love the special cycling paths along the entire island and furthermore there are plenty hotels, B&B's, restaurants and pubs. Especially in the villages West and Midsland. Terschelling can be reached by (car) ferry from the mainland (Harlingen) or by hydrofoil ...
...Everything is packed. But if you have the chance to attent the festival, take it! If you're only looking for a brief acquaintance with Terschelling and the other Wadden Islands, you might enjoy island hopping with special cycling tour operators like wadfietsen.nl or fiets-fun.nl (fiets is Dutch for bycicle). ...

Review of Terschelling Island

The car free island

Advantages: Vlieland: the smallest of the Wadden Islands
Disadvantages: None

Vlieland is the smallest of the Dutch Wadden islands and by far the loveliest. Cars may be owned by permanent inhabitants only, which makes the island an oasis of peace. With the exception of the far western part (Vliehorst) which is a drill-ground for the Dutch airforce. The only (small) village lies at the south-east coast of Vlieland, where the ferry from the mainland arrives. The village has all the supplies the inhabitants and tourists need, ...
...east of the village. Vlieland is the fardest Dutch island from the mainland, two hours by ferry from Harlingen. From Texel in the summer Vlieland can be reached with a small pedestrian ferry ("De Vriendschap") which moors at the Vliehors, from where travellers are being transported in a special truck to the village. If you're only looking for a brief acquaintance with Vlieland and the other Wadden Islands, you might enjoy island hopping with special ...
