Advantages: Great place to see views of city Disadvantages: It is a city and New Zealand is so much more beautiful to go rural
, with sections on Maori Culture and also the War it covers all sorts of things. It is free to enter but they recommend a $5 donation. It covers 3 floors and the building itself is stunning. You can take about 3-4 hours looking around and it is defiantly worth doing if you have time.
Ferry Trip:
If you have a spare morning/afternoon and fancy getting out of the city then why not take a ferry ride to one of the near by islands. Auckland is surrounded by islands that have been caused by volcanoes over the years, it is a great way to get views of the city from the water and also great to see something a bit more tranquil.
I took a trip to Rangitoto Island which is a volcanic island, this was a short ferry ride, once you get to the island you have about 3 hours to explore before getting the ferry back to the city, this is a great trip for anyone ...
Advantages: big city, islands, picture perfect scenery ... Disadvantages: Auckland traffic is a killer
Auckland.
I visit Auckland a couple of times a year for various reasons and always manage to find a new side to this city on every visit.
This sprawling city is the largest in New Zealand and approx 1/3rd of the countries population live there. This makes for an interesting multi-cultural city but it is pretty much undistinguishable from most other major world cities.
The thing that does make Auckland special is its setting. The city is located on a natural harbour and is made up of lots of interesting bays and coves. Auckland is known as the City of Sails and after familiarising yourself with this city you will see why. There are hundreds of yachts moored in various harbours all over this city and on a summer weekend the harbour is awash with water craft of every description.

Advantages: beautiful location, fantastic staff Disadvantages: you cannot walk to the city
around Takapuna, where the hotel is situated in order to burn off some extra calories. The weather was perfect, about 20 degrees and sunny so we walked down to the beach which is about 1 km long with soft white sand. Amazing how active the people of Auckland seem, never have I seen so many people jogging, power-walking or mountain-biking at the same time. When staying in this hotel it is well worth to have a good look around the north shore as this area is beautiful and offers some great little cafes and some decent shopping.
After this we decided to go to the city itself. We went to the bus stop that had been pointed out to us and there was a bus along very shortly, they do seem to run very regularly. It cost us $3 a person to go across the bridge to the city. Missing rush hour like we did meant that the whole trip took about 10 minutes ...
