...Although the hotel is situated in one of the best locations in New YorkCity (it is a couple of blocks away from the centre of Times Square), it lacks a little quality. The restaurant facilities are not up to much, especially breakfast-wise and the rooms are nothing special. However, it is better than most hotels in New York and the location does more than make up for the slight lack of quality. The hotel is situated in a midtown location which is ideal for shopping and seeing most of the NYC sites....

Advantages: Cheap and right on Times Square Disadvantages: A bit on the shabby side
...Hotel Carter is often referred to as a hostel but I wouldn't go that far. Although it's not exactly New York luxury the room was en-suite and was clean and a good size, if a little dated (the carpet on the wall is somewhat different!). The Hotel didn't have a restaurant but there are plenty of places to eat nearby. If you are just after a cheap weekend in the Big Apple you can't get a much more central location than this Hotel which is just off Times Square and for the money compared to other NY hotels I think it is great value. Especially since you'll probably spend very little time in hotel room with the rest of New York to explore!...

Advantages: lots to do, easy to get around, plenty to see Disadvantages: loud at night, somewhat overwhelming (if that's a bad thing!?)
...After years of talking about it and day-dreaming, my husband and I finally visited New YorkCity in September 2007. We had high expectations and thought we knew what to expect. Newsflash: Whatever your expectations, New YorkCity will exceed them. Another newsflash: no matter how much you think you know about NYC, you will never really know until you visit. After four days in the city that never sleeps, we still didn't know or see a tenth of it!
We stayed at the Carter Hotel which was smack-bang in the centre of the action at Times square. You see Times Square on TV and it is nothing compared to the real thing. It is truly huge. My husband and I spent the entire time looking up with our mouths open in wonder.
What did we do during our stay? We took a tour of Madison Square Garden- a must see for all sports fans; took the elevator...

The New Yorker is in an excellent midtown location with the subway (lines A, C & E) literally steps outside. Being on the corner of 8th Avenue and 34th Street this meant good access to Macy's, Empire State Building, Madison Square Gardens and the... more
If you want to stay in Central New York then this is the hotel to book. It is actually IN Times Square! It's a huge modern hotel with over 45 floors so some of the views are great. There is a bar at the top which is a lovely place to have a drink,... more
Postmodernism, eh? It's a funny old bag of fish. Even the holier-than-thou critics don't quite seem to know what it's all about. They argue whether it's
a) a revolt against modernism,
b) a progression of modernism,
c) both of these and more
or d) more
