A hotel in the heart of New York City

Advantages: Great Location, Clean and Friendly Staff
Disadvantages: Views from hotel itself not great, no free wi fi

My boyfriend turned 30 a few weeks ago and for his present I booked us a trip to New York and the Wellington Hotel is where I picked for us to stay due to its central location in Manhattan. Last Wednesday we flew out to NYC and checked into the Wellington. If you didn't know already this is where part of the Borat film was made, the main scene being where he tries to unpack his things in the lift thinking its his room and so many Borat jokes ensued in the elevators during our stay. The location of the hotel is amazing, its a 1 minute walk from Carnegie Hall, 2 minutes from Central Park and 5 minutes from Times Square and is located on the corner of 55th Street and 7th Avenue. Review of Wellington Hotel, New York City

Wall Street, Slick, Drama about Greed and Finance in New York

Advantages: Excellent Story and Performances, Documentary Feel.
Disadvantages: Slighlty weak sub-plot and ending

This is an excellent drama directed by Oliver Stone recurring around the New York Stock Exchange during the 80's and how stock brokers were able to achieve huge wealth through the buying and selling of options and shares. It follows Bud Fox (Charlie Sheen), a young and ambitious broker who has his eye on working for Wall Street giant, Gorden Gecko (Oscar Winning Michael Douglas) but must first prove himself worthy in this cut throat business. In order to gain Gecko's interest and his foot in the door, Fox uses information he has on his own father's (Martin Sheen) airline to gain Geckos interest regarding a takeover. It follows Fox's rise and subsequent manipulation and corruption by Gecko. Fox struggles to live with himself, as he realises his wealth is at the expense of other peoples jobs and lives. Review of Wall Street (DVD)

New York City

Advantages: A lot to see & do, has something to offer for everyone
Disadvantages: Too much to see and do, can be exhausting, expensive hotels

of people on the subway....a homeless guy that were stinking so bad that no one wanted to sit around the guy, the young generation, people in suites going back from work etc. Some of the subway stations are quite small. With many of the streets of Manhattan being logically numbered and split into west side and east side, it was also quite easy to walk around in NYC. We did use the map in our guidebook because it also had indication on where the subway stations could be found. And I guess that if you do get totally lost, just get in a yellow cab :-) NYC may consider having larger subway signs, like the big UNDERGROUND signs in London. And maybe also have electronically updated schedules on the platform ? as a new comer to the city it's reassuring to know when the next train will be arriving.
