Just got back from a lovely weekend in London and stayed at the the Washington Hotel in Mayfair. Do I reccommend this hotel - well it is good value. I booked direct from their website and it cost £89 plus VAT including full breakfast for two. This is for a 4 star hotel in the heart of London. The foyer is nice, clean, spacious and welcoming and check in was without any hassle. Our room was clean, but the decor in the room was tired. Some chips on the furniture, scuffs on the walls and skirting board and the bathroom needed a really deep clean. I'm also a bit of a satellite TV fand there was only Sky News, CNN and some Indian channels, plus the normal 5 terrestrial channels. Even though Sky Sports was promoted in the room literature it wasn't there, so rather disappointing. The bed was comfortable, but it took a while to get to sleep because of some noisy waterpipes. Breakfast in the morning was the best bit - buffet choice of a full English, plus continental. All good quality stuff in a bright airy restaurant. I didn't use the bar but it was normal hotel fayre. Other facilities such as a small gym, wi-fi and 24 hour concierge were available. Nearby there is a selection of top quality restaurants, pubs and coffee shops. For the tourists and travellers it is situated near Green Park tube and is within walking distance of Buckingham Palace, Piccadlly and the all of the West End. All in all this is a good value hotel considering its location and I have paid much more for worse. It just needs a bit of tlc with the decor and maintenance on those noisy pipes!
