Advantages: Maryborough House Hotel & Spa Disadvantages: Not much to do, disc parking schemes
...We had a 4 night break based around Cork, the good point was the hotel in Douglas (Maryborough Hotel and Spa) which was very good with excellent facilities and very friendly staff (probably because most were eastern european rather than Irish). Not a cheap option though.
Overall though we found Cork disappointing, the countryside is OK, nothing spectacular though, and many areas appear shabby.
One thing we did note was the apparent aversion to tourists in terms of lack of parking spaces - Cork City and most towns - even small ones have "disc parking" i.e. if you are local it's easy to park, if not then virtually impossible or you pay often over 2 euros per hour - and worse many parking bays have a 2 hour maximum stay.
The City itself was also disappointing, it seems to be undergoing a major refurb in the centre at the moment...

Advantages: Location, location, location Disadvantages: Service not 5*
...catgegory. The laundry service was excellent - fast and perfect condition.
I paid 240 Singapore dollars per night on a corporate rate (about £80). The place was 100% full when I was there, although they were able to find me a room when I asked to extend my stay by a few nights. You can upgrade to a Club room for longer stays where you get your own exclusive floor and breakfast area - this could be worth it as breakfast in the main restaurant gets busy (plus you also get free evening drinks in the Club floor!)
The hotel pool is wonderful - overlooking the water (what they call an infinity pool) with plenty of sunbeds. The best bit is the "Asian Spa" - I had the best foot massage by a Thai therapist and also a wonderful facial. Not cheap, but worth every penny.
Restaurants are good - especially those next to the hotel by the water...

...Harbour, just north of the larger island of Cobh. The hotel is located between 20-25 minutes from Cork International Airport, and is ideally suited for exploring the beauty and serenity of southern Ireland; something I would really like to do more of. I wonder if that's anything to do with my love of Irish women?!?!!?
The resort is being built on the site of the existing Fota Island Golf Club. In addition to the 18-hole championship golf course, the hotel offers recreational facilities include a full-service, 1,600-square meter destination spa with 17 treatment rooms, a full-length swimming pool, hydro-pool, and walking river. More on this later……

My impressions of this game when I saw it advertised on the internet was that it looked like a completely different type of game that I'm used to seeing for the DS.
