Advantages: Everything Disadvantages: It's a long way away
...Perth comes very high on my list of favourite cities. The Swan river winds through the city, and combined with the many parks and lack of high rise buildings gives the impression of a small town, rather than the large city it actually is. The central shopping district is well laid out and has a liberal sprinkling of good bars and restaurants as well as some interesting shops. Beware if you’re easily offended though, some of the bars (even on main streets) are somewhat male oriented. Topless, and even naked, barmaids are not uncommon. Everything’s relatively cheap here, decent apartments are easy to get hold of too. The people I met here were all great. You have to be able to take (and return) a bit of stick to get on anywhere in Oz though, and Perth is no different. A definite recommendation...

Advantages: easy to walk into town centre from here/beautiful views/very clean Disadvantages: very small pool/sound of traffic most of time.
...We stayed here for a week and found it an excellent place to be as we had never been to Perth before and it was so easy to either walk into the city (10-15 minutes) or hop on a free bus outside. The views from the apartments over the river and local parks and are beautiful. The staff were very helpful and kind and the rooms were well appointed and equipped as well as spotlessly clean. There is a restuarant on site and a few other places nearby but it is so close to town without actually being in it that it is easy to eat anywhere and have a drink then walk back to apartment. It was nice having your own apartment but also having the luxury of a hotel reception. There are two pools on site but they are very small and in fact one did not catch the sun for very long but then we were there to sight see so it did not matter....

Advantages: Attractive place, probably nice for retirement. Good for backpackers. Disadvantages: Not much to see, don't go in the winter.
...the Rhinos there. It was relatively cheap too.
The main town centre was nice, kind of quaint but not really a lot of choice there, but loads of nice cafes and bookshops.
We walked most places, even places miles away (or felt like it) but I was glad we did, cos we saw loads of things on the way, like funny signs (expose yourself to the freeway), wildlife, and huge houses.
Apart from that really I was disappointed with Perth, but I think maybe it was because the weather was cooler (with a severe weather warning in place) and I really felt like I was in the worlds remotest city (which it is).
Oh and we went to one of the McDonalds there, and it was disgusting and dirty - don't go there!
We checked out of the hotel and picked up our campervan from Britz and drove to a campsite in Caversham about 40 mins away from Perth city centre.
Our campervan...
