I was born in Watford and have lived here all my life. It was not a Roman town as someone else has said but was called Cassio in the doomsday book as a piece of land in the parish of St Albans. It was a nice town once but due to urban sprawl of London and the continuous building of retail establishments from the Harlequin centre and Charter Place which was the smaller 1970's version (still part of the major shopping area)to the big retail carbuncles that litter the place it has been transformed into a road network from hell! In the two months before Christmas the town grinds to a halt as the roads can't handle the extra traffic. The town centre has many drinking and eating establishments. It has Destiny which is the night club which attracts people from miles around to party,drink and fight! the top of the town is the focal point where the pond is. This is the old part of town where Destiny is now situated. the town has many diffrent nationalities living within it. Things to do in Watford;
1. Night life is good but watch the violence on the weekends .Many pubs and clubs to visit.Also many eating places.
2. Two public swimming pools in the town.
3. Watch first division football or Rugby Union at Vicarage Road.
4. There is a the river Gade and the Grand union canal for walkers,bikers,anglers and boating folk.
5. It's the home of Leavesden studios where Goldeneye,Star Wars(Phantom Menace),Sleepy Hollow(Johnny Depp) and of course the slightly popular Harry Potter films are all made at the studios.There wassupposed to be a studio tour being arranged for the public but as yet nothing has materialsised!
6. Film buffs can go to the Woodside leisure park and visit the Warner 8 screen cinema ( two miles North of the main town)There is also a Hollywood bowl on the same site.
7. Country parks : Cassiobury park( town centre ) Aldenham country park ( four miles north of town)
There are plenty of things to do and visit in and around Watford but it depends what floats your boat
I hope I have given you and insight into the town.

Advantages: Decent selection of restaurants and bars Disadvantages: Pubs and bars become too busy at the weekends
Originally a roman town, Watford is a modest market town situated between the outskirts of north-west London and the green belt.
Having lived there all my life, I have had no reason to leave, and being so conveiniently located 20 miles north west of London, I have always commuted into London where I work. Watford has a reasonable transport system. Trains and buses generally.
Nevertheless, unemployment is low and jobs are plentiful inand around ...

Advantages: Great Location and Price Disadvantages: Needed modernising (and now has been)
York City. The hotel was purpose built in 1919. A grand 90 years old. The front of the hotel is flat and gives the impression that it is a square building, it isn't, it is forked and looks like a large W but with an extra fork, this is great as it keeps the rooms in the 'forks' quiet. New York is a loud city and the roads are busy all the time.
The hotel houses a large entrance with concierge, the check in/receptionist desk is quite large with many desks, it was quite busy but we got checked in within 10 minutes. What was really weird is the girl behind the desk asked where we were from and we said England, and for some reason my mum said oh near Watford and it turns out the American girl had been working at our local hospital, it was so weird!
The hotel has a coffee shop (they sell the best hot chocolate in the world, as well as ...
