Most people know New York City as the city that never sleeps or the big apple. Whatever you name New York City it is the largest city in America and has much to offer visitors all around the world. Traveling to New York gave me the opportunity to explore this wonderful City. There is so much to do and see that I was never bored. Travelling through New York is easy as most places are within walking distance and if not you can get a tube or bus.
There are many hotels to choose from and finding the right one can be a difficult choice. We chose The Wellington Hotel. I thought it was the right decision when I booked it and as soon as I saw the hotel I knew I had made the right decision. The outside of the hotel looks impressive and you can see the lights from Times Square
which is really cosy and inviting.
Walking through the reception a massive chandelier greets you which gives a magical feeling to your visit. It was quite a nice surprise to see the chandelier and added a bit of class to the otherwise dated, but pleasant hotel.
The reception desk is small and uninviting. Mostly it is busy and difficult to speak with the members of staff. You might have to wait a few minutes before being shown to your room. On arrival we had to wait a few minutes before we were addressed and taken to our room. We were very tired and wanted to have some sleep before we went for dinner. It was a bit of a culture shock when the guy who carried our bags expected a tip. Quite unlike the UK where it is optional to tip, in America you have to tip. I usually tip anyway especially when someone has carried my bags to the room, but I am not used to being expected to tip and I thought this was a little rude. As I say it was a culture shock and the first time I was actually aware that we had stepped off the aeroplane and landed in New York City.
When we got to our room I was pleased with how spacious the room was and the way it was equipped with everything we would need for our stay. It was fully furnished with luxurious beds, sofa, TV, kettle 1 bath, separate living room with pullout couch, table with 2 chairs, separate kitchenette with micro - fridge, cabinets and countertop, plus a balcony. Wonderfully massive walk in wardrobes that I'd only ever dreamed of owning. The room was exceptionally clean, the bath was like a mirror you could see your face in it, it was that clean. A plentiful supply of fresh towels daily. The air conditioning could have been more powerful, but it wasn't really uncomfortable.
The first thing I tested after using the toilet was the bed. I fell straight to sleep. The long 8 hour flight had caught up with me and we ditched dinner. The next thing I knew the sun was streaming through the window and it was morning.
I did notice that the hallways were very small as well as the elevators. Our experience with the suite was fantastic and I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone.
We had a good view over central park. I was blown away by the view and felt that we couldn't have picked a nicer hotel for the price we paid.
The hotel is not amongst the most expensive hotels New York offers and is excellent value for money. It might be a bit basic depending on the room that you chose, but it serves its purpose and is a lot better than most youth hostels or cheaper hotels. It isn't the cheapest hotel, but it isn't the most expensive. I think it was the right price for the hotel stay. We paid about $384 for 2 persons and 2 nights stay.
If you like eating out along with the plentiful diners in New York City the hotel has a restaurant next door. You can expect to be served freshly cooked full English breakfasts and other foods. These can all be charged to your room and you can settle at the end of your stay. As for the location of the hotel, you couldn't ask for better. It is right near Central Park, Toys R Us, across the road from Carnegie Hall, 3 blocks to Times Square, 6 blocks to Rockefeller, Radio City, shopping, shows and sightseeing.
If you don't want to travel by tube you can hop on and off buses that pick you up right on the block. If you like a good cup of coffee then you will love the fact that Starbucks is right across the road from the hotel.
There are free safety deposit boxes available at the reception. However if you lose the key the reception charges $100 to break the box open.
If you like the theatre then The Wellington Hotel is in a prime location in the middle of Manhattan Hotels very close to Broadway theatres.
New York is a fascinating City with much to do and see. New York City is both exciting and interesting. There are many hotels and youth hostels in New York City, but The Wellington Hotel is certainly a very inviting hotel that is close to most amenities.
Whether your stay is for leisure purposes or business New York City exerts world wide influence in commerce and finance as well as arts and entertainment.
International affairs are very important and New York City has many famous landmarks. It is a very exciting place to be and it really is busier than you will ever imagine unless you have experienced it yourself. If you don't like crowds or suffer from claustrophobia it might not be the place for you.
