No real problems here!

Advantages: Clean trains and stations, effieient, reliable, great prices, friendly staff, an example to set to other operators
Disadvantages: Could do with some nice, new trains, more carriages on Cardiff-Portsmouth service sometimes needed

Wessex trains also runs train stations, the biggest of which are Gloucester and Cheltenham Spa, but most Wessex run stations are small village, inner city and town stations around the network.

I often travel from Bath Spa or Oldfield Park to Cheltenham Spa 3 or 4 days a week and have been doing so since September.

So, how good are they? People are always complaining about the state of the trains ... more

First Great Western-Bring back Wessex Trains!

Advantages: On Time, friendly staff, High speed service great!
Disadvantages: Chronic overcrowding, dirty and tired trains, lack of staff on board Wessex Services

First Great Western are a strange company. They originally had the High Speed services out of London Paddington, but more recently have gained the commuter lines out of Paddington from Thames Link, and the ex-Wessex trains lines in the South West. I often travel from Salisbury up to Bristol Temple Meads with Fist Great Western. This route used to be run by Wessex Trains, but they lost the franchise to First. This is definitely a shame. The old trains are often crowded, and very tatty. I've yet to travel on one of the refurbished ones, hopefully they will be slightly better. They are painted Blue, by the way. The Silver ex-Wessex ones are OK, but tired, and the Red and Blue 'Trans Pennine' ones are horrible. Very tired, everything rattling and the old things feel like they are about to collapse. Despite what is printed in ...

Car hire is available for around 20 pounds per day, from U-DRIVE, EUROPCAR or DORSET VEHICLE RENTALS. PORTLAND The Island I was talking about earlier. Not alot there. Portland Castle is one nice thing, also a nice walking place and a Lighthouse with Visitors Center. It is accessible by a bus that comes every 10 minutes or drive there. OVERALL... I think Weymouth is a nice place to spend a long weekend, stay in a B&B, then whisk yourself ...

Getting Around Bristol

Advantages: A variety of ways of getting around
Disadvantages: Can be expensive and time consuming to get to certain places

around Bristol and further such as Weston Super Mare and Bath. There is a night bus available which gives priority to females. Various deals are on offer such as day riders and family tickets which gives unlimited travel for one day for around £3.00 for a day rider. There are also deals such as the Bristol Zoo offer which gives a bus ride to the Zoo and entrance fee all in one. See the bus station for more details *-* Park & Ride *-* There is the Long Ashton and Brislington Park & Rides which are short distances from the centre. They offer cheap car parking and is usually more quicker than a car alone. *-* Train*-* Bristol Temple Meads is situated near the centre of the city and is accesible through the country. Companies include Virgin, First Great Western and Wessex Trains. *-* Walk*-* i know that Bristol is a big city ...
