The Westbury is a five star hotel and is part of the Jurys Doyle group of hotels. It's also one of a select number of hotels within the collection of Leading Hotels of the World.
Jurys Doyle state that they are dedicated to providing prime city centre locations and this hotel is most certainly in a prime central Dublin location - it's yards from the shopping heaven of Grafton Street.

We arrived at The Westbury hotel on foot as we'd decided to travel into Dublin city centre from the airport by bus and the hotel is only a few minutes walk from the bus stop.
Our first thoughts were that the exterior of the hotel was pretty ordinary and not at all assuming.
There was a uniformed and top hatted concierge on duty who greeted us, held open the glass doors to allow us to enter the hotel and promptly left us to get on with finding the reception area.
Inside two sets of glass doors and up a wonderful staircase (think marble with crystal chandeliers) and slightly to the right is the elegant mahogany and brass reception station. The whole lobby area is beautifully traditional with touches of opulence - not overpowering, just enough to relax the senses and allow a feeling of wellbeing to creep into our lives for a couple of nights.
Check in was smooth and simple - the clerk even gave us a complimentary room upgrade to an Executive room. He gave us all necessary information about the hotel, key cards for our room (239), directed us to the lifts which are immediately opposite the reception area and told us to enjoy our stay.

We couldn't have been happier when we entered our room, it was very large and beautifully appointed and in fact it was probably a family type room as there was a single and a double bed in this room. There was also a sofa, an armchair and a coffee table which were at the opposite end of the room from the beds. Magazines adorned the coffee table. There was a dressing table/workstation with a telephone and mirror above and a work chair at this position and of course there was the obligatory TV. There was a small cupboard which housed an iron and ironing board and a slightly larger cupboard in which sat the room fridge and a supply of crystal glasses, napkins, cocktail sticks and an ice bucket. (There was an ice maker on each floor of the hotel). There also was a suitcase stand. The wardrobe, strangely, was a modern door less one but on reflection this is probably all to do with the fact that this room was wheelchair user friendly - the entrance door was much wider than a 'normal' door and the en suite shower room was actually a 'wet' room which had all the facilities required for a disabled guest.
The en suite wet room was accessed through a sliding door. It was VERY plush. We had a double power shower, WC and basin. White fluffy towels in abundance, face cloths and tissues etc…..the glasses supplied were crystal tumblers!! Aveda toiletries and soap were supplied.
Both the guest room and en suite were spotlessly clean. Bed linen was changed daily and towels were changed almost as soon as we'd used them.
Thick towelling robes and slinky towelling slippers were provided.
A full 'turn down' service was given.

We stayed at the Westbury on a Bed 'n' Breakfast basis for two nights at the beginning of December 2006. We had breakfast each morning in The Russell Room - a lovely experience - there was a buffet breakfast menu as well as a selection of cooked foods. Hot drinks and food were waiter service and cold foods and drink were available at the small buffet area. On the buffet table there were cereals, fruit, fruit juices, breads, croissants, butters, jams. Cold meats, cheeses, smoked salmon. Amongst the choices of cooked breakfast there was a Full Irish, Finnan Haddock and eggs cooked whatever way you desired…..we sampled the haddock and the full Irish…..Yum!!
We didn't have any other meals in the hotel we chose to use local restaurants. We did have coffee in the Terrace lounge where afternoon tea was served daily and appeared to be quite a highlight. The grand piano was tinkled tunefully for the couple of hours of tea service. We also had drinks in the Mandarin bar. Sport was shown on a plasma screen in this bar if/when requested. Prices were a bit higher than in the U.K.

You'll no doubt be wondering just what the cost of a two night bed and breakfast stay at The Westbury is…..well, I've just checked on 'tinternet' and a standard room for two including breakfast is available for 288 Euros per night….approximately £200.
Our two night stay was a complimentary one gifted by Jurys Doyle hotels by way of an apology for an incident that occurred when I visited one of their Glasgow hotels. (Still Deliberating This One is the name of the review of this).

We thoroughly enjoyed our two nights of luxury and would recommend the hotel to any of you looking for a spot of self indulgence and prepared to pay for it.
