...in South Africa? Well the Western Cape is one of the most Tourist friendly areas. It is said to strectch along the coast from Cape Town in the West up to Port Elizabeth in the East, encompassing such delights along the way as Hermanus, Mossel Bay, George, Wilderness and Knysna, to name but a few.
You might also choose to take a bit of a detour inland from George, most likely up the Famous Route 62 - leading to Oudtshoorn, with it's wonderful ostriches, ... ...stroke cheeters and tigers!!).....as well as the chance to go down (or up) the Swartberg pass - particularly fun (should that be challenging?!) on a bike......wow!
I have worked out there, but the last time I was out there, I took a two week trip down the Garden Route and Cape Town....here are some of my experiences.
I started off my tour in Port Elizabeth (PE). The coastline is amazing here, but maybe head out towards the edge of town - either ...

Advantages: Beautiful, fantastic value for money Disadvantages: Crime.
...only a fraction of the Western Cape is covered, this, I hope, will give you a feel for the region. Tempt a little.
Once on the ground things were a little more hectic, but no less eye catching for it. Cape Town has that appeal. It draws you in. We stayed at the The Backpack, which was very comfortable and secure with dormitories, and individual rooms available. It is on the corner of Military Road & New Church Street and very close to Long Street.
... ...of Cape Town’s longest streets. It is also one of its most beguiling streets, full of (the end I was at) bars, restaurants, hostels, shops, hotels, mosques...and more. It is safe to walk along in the day and at night and it is well worth the effort as the street is an experience in itself. It is perhaps better to be with company, although there was visible security on the streets.
Another honey pot for the tourist is the Victoria and Albert Waterfront. ...

My aunt lived in south africa for several years, so i supposed i'd always wondered what it was like after hearing some of her stories... but i'm not gonna lie the only reason i decided to go there - i was flicking through a gap year brochure and came across a picture of a pod of bottle nosed dolphins and that was it i was going, didn't really have any idea where it was i had decided i was going until i read the rest of the advert, but i didn't care ... ...over in june last year, which is the start of the south african winter, not one of the things i was best pleased about, especially as my aunt had been saying.....might be a little cold, and the random south african dude at the airport (who for some reason had decided i was from new zeland...!?!) told me that up near kruger, where i was off to first would probably still be warm, but plett and the rest of the garden route would probably be very cold, ...

The Fairest Cape Review ofWestern Cape (South Africa)by
sharkman
Advantages: Great sceneary and lovely weather Disadvantages: possible crime fears- mostly unfounded
The Western Cape, with its mountains is the most attractive of all of the nine provinces. It is also the most popular region of the country, the province is the most southerly of South Africa and its coastline is bordered by both the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. It is home to the most southernly point of Africa, at Cape Agulhas, which is al;so the point where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet - a simple yet dramatic stone cairn marks the exact spot, ... ...trip:-
When visitint the Western Cape, you should take the same precautions as you would in any other city or town, such as avoiding the unnecessary display of valuables and refraining from walking in deserted areas or going out alone at night.
When in hotels:-
Never leave your baggage unattended
keep all valuables in the sfae or security boxes
keep your door locked at all times
always hand in your keys at reception when leaving the hotel
