Weston Park covers a 5 acre site nestled between buildings that belong to the City's University and directly adjacent to the Children's Hospital. This location makes it one of the easiest Parks in Sheffield to get to by Public transport.

From the City Centre the number 60 Bus leaves the main Interchange Bus Station every 10 minutes whilst the number 51 and 52 leave High Street every 8 minutes. Other Buses ... more

The Weston Park Museum, Sheffield

Advantages: Free Entry, Plenty To See And Do
Disadvantages: Not Laid Out As Well As It Could Be

Weston Park Museum is located within Weston Park, which is the closest Public Park to Sheffield City Centre. The City's Hospitals and University Buildings surround it making it very easily accessible by Car, Bus or Tram from the City Centre, which is less than one mile away. The Museum closed in the March of 2003 for a major £17million refurbishment that was partly funded by National Lottery money. It was due to re-open in the autumn of last year. However major structural problems that were discovered during this refurbishment meant that the Museum only finally re-opened its doors to the Public on Saturday 14th October 2006. This major refurbishment was undertaken by a Company called Mivan PLC, this same Company was responsible for work at the Imperial War Museum in Manchester, at Dubai's Islamic Art Museum and several parts ...

Review of Weston Park Museum, Sheffield

Ecclesall Woods, Sheffield

Advantages: Lots Of History And Wildlife
Disadvantages: Some Footpaths Can Get Messy

Ecclesall Woods. This was taken to the Weston Park Museum in Sheffield where it was dated to the late Neolithic or Bronze Age period around the year 2800BC. This was the first Prehistoric Carving to be found in the area and therefore caused a great deal of excitement. An extensive search around the area where this object was found later unearthed further objects and the remains of ancient Earthworks, Rock Paintings and Rock Art. This location has now been sealed off, an area of 20 metres in diameter and has now been designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument (SAM). Located at the bottom of the Woods are the Abbeydale Works, now known as the Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet. These Works have been largely preserved since they ceased production and were mothballed around 1676 when they were used a Water Powered Scythe Works. This is one of the best ...
