J.D.Weatherspoon is a national pub chain, with outlets all over England, and reputedly is one of the fastest growing companies of its type in the UK. I havent yet managed to visit all their outlets but I have been to a one of their outlets near Victoria Station in London and a number in Kent such as the Saxon Shore in Herne Bay, the West Gate Inn and the Thomas Ingleby in Canterbury, the Summoner in Sittingbourne and the County Hotel in Ashford.
Decor
The decor in most of the pubs is pleasant, rather trendy, with loads of wood panelling and cute alcoves. The seating is comfortable and there are areas reserved for both non smokers and smokers. The toilets seem to their pride and joy and certainly are well maintained and exceptionally clean. You could almost describe them as groovy.
Drinks
One of the undoubted attractions od JD Weatherspoon is the very wide range of drinks they serve up. They stock great real ales such as Shepherd Neame Spitfire, Wadworth 6X, Courage directors Bitter,an excellent range of whiskies, vodkas, brandies and a good selection of reasonably priced wines. They also have a goodly range of cocktails but they are quite pricey. Soft drinks are also available. A pleasant surprise I had in the Saxon Shore was getting a splendid pint of Kozel (Goat Beer) from the Czech Republic-at 1.60 pounds a pint it was a real snip.
Food
They serve up some quite good if basic food at value for money prices. there are dishes such as Chilli con carne, Chicken Balti, Haddock and Chips, Cheese & Bacon Burger and they a do a special where you can get two meals for 5.99 pounds. On some nights they have a Curry Club where you can partake of fiery Indian food such at moderate prices. You get four or five courses for an all inclusive price of 5.99 pounds-good value indeed. You wont find gourmet food here but if you want reasonably priced basic meals they are OK My only complaint about the food service is that can be a tad slow at times.
Overall Rating
If you like comfortable surroundings,a good range of reasonably priced food and a congenial atmosphere then this chain should meet your requirements. If you like to have music whilst quaffing your ale or like old world pubs of real character, then Weatherspoon is not for you. Overall I would give them a good rating, perhaps, four stars out of five ! I love Wetherspoon pubs. Not having much luck with their contact us section on the website though - not getting any reply. Great op, best wishes, Julie

I used to a regular visitor to my local Wetherspoons located near Stepney Green as the prices were even cheaper than those in central London. Good op... cheers SB.
