Wetherspoon's is probably the most famous pub chain there is for England. It is a relatively new chain of pubs which a law graduate (?!) opened in 1979. Now there are over 500 pubs throughout England. These pubs I have religiously visited for years, because of several reasons;

Value for Money - It’s the cheapest drinking venue, with the exception of a Student Union
Ambiance - The pub is good, either for a quiet drink or a stop off on the way to a club
Good Food – The food is always is delicious

They serve all types of drink possible at brilliant prices, and often have varying deals on them. (I would specify these, but they vary pub to pub and week to week). I would say that apart from abroad and in Student bars it is the cheapest place possible pub-wise. I cannot quote prices off my head, apart from that a bottle of Stella is normally £1-£1.50. You can usually get a round for 4 people for £7.00.

They serve food and have a deal where you can get two meals for £5, which makes it ideal for students. The food is what you would typically expect from a pub, All-English fayre with some extras put in. The prices, even if you don’t get the 2 for £5 deal are very reasonable and good value for money. The portions are massive. (We ordered a side order of fries and they were absolutely massive) Not only that they are lovely. I can recommend the Chicken Wrap, this is not part of the two for £5, but is the best tortilla wrap I have ever tasted. (However you must take breath mints if you choose the Chicken Wrap!)

The atmosphere varies from pub to pub, depending on it’s location but Wetherspoon’s attracts a wide variety of people, young people in their twenties to the older generation popping down for a quiet drink. Also the décor varies pub to pub. For example the Kings Tun in Kingston Upon Thames is very trendy with turquoise walls and some are more traditional for example The Moon on Hill in North Cheam, Surrey.

They don’t play music in the Wetherspoon’s pub, which may attract some people looking for a quiet drink, as you can actually hear the person talking to you in this pub! But those who enjoy pubs like the Litten Tree, you may think that Wetherspoon’s is a bit boring in comparison when all you can hear is people chatting. This aspect may be a negative side to the pub, depending on what atmosphere you like. They also have designates non smoking areas in every pub, and were actually the first chain of pubs to introduce this!!

I think that Wetherspoon’s are a great chain of pubs, if for nothing else than you can guarantee a cheap drink with your friends or family and a good time. If you’ve been to one Wetherspoon’s and disliked it then please try a different one, because no two Wetherspoon’s are the same. You may be pleasantly surprised! If you’ve never been to a Wetherspoon’s then please try one as you may be pleasantly surprised too.

By the way there when you read my comments below, there are Wetherspoons all over the country, not just in South London, The clientele of the pub depends on it's location and decor. The type of pub also varies same with the loudness. There is outside seating, at SOME of the pubs.

Yes, its's great that they are so cheap - which is probably why my local one, a huge ex cinema, is usually filled with mad old drunks who've been swilling since opening time (no, I'm not referring to myself!). I like the fact that there's no music as it makes a change from having to SHOUT!

Yep... says it all really. I too like the Weatherspoons "experience" and have been pleased to see them moving into Wales. Enjoyed the op! Regards. Dave

I love weatherspoons pubs and when out on the road, it's a relief to see their usual decor - I know I will get good food! So many of the have 'moon' in their title that we just tend to call them 'moons', Best Wishes, Julie
