I have really mixed feelings about JD Wetherspoons and feel i should try and explore them and come to a decision about wether they deserve our money.
As you take that apprehensive little step through the door you are consistently met with a relaxed and cosy ambience and it all feels..... very british and traditional. If you are anything like me you head straight for the bar and are pleased at the excellent choice and variety of drinks on offer ( alcoholic and non-alcoholic). You are even more pleased when you have paid and realise how cheap it all is (£ 1-95 for a cosmopolitan WOW! )
So there you are drink in one hand and menu in the other and you are bowled over by the choice and price of all the gastronomic wonders to be had. " Okay i'm gonna have the steak pie and veg, its only £5.95!, and look at the picture of it, it looks delicious ".
You head to the bar again (no table service) to order your meal and... DOH! you've forgotten to get the number off the table to tell the bar person where you are sitiing. No problem you walk back and forth and retrieve the number to the bar staff who submits your order. The staff are never rude or particularly pleasent just....indifferent.The toilets and eating areas are always very clean and there is alot of space so you do not sit on top of each other which i hate about other restaurants.
So you wait and patiently drink your cosmopolitan ( husband had beer £ 1-70 ) and suck in the cosy ambience for half an hour until that big moment of the food arriving.
Oh dear... This is where it all falls apart The steak in the pie is clearly from a tin and the pastry has been plooped on top... You just know that they didnt come from the same dish! Oh well at least these colourful boiled veg look nice and tasty.......... " Crunch " there goes my filling. Now i know, i know, veg is much healthier when it is raw but call me old fashioned i like it the way my mum and other normal homosapiens make it nice and soft and tasty with a little butter.
The quality of the food really lets this place down, i know a chef from our local wetherspoons and he has leeked to me that alot of stuff is microwaved including veg! Nooooooo it looked so cosy and traditional and healthy. It just can't be.... well let me tell you it is.
Don't get me wrong if you want a cheap drink and a small snack ( i.e. nachos, burger and chips etc) then wetherspoons is the cats pyjama's, But lets not try and kid ourselves into thinking that the chefs here are cooks! i have been here with my little brother several times and i must admit the kids menu is great with lots of options and tiny prices. I have even ordered off it myself once and the mini burger and chips were yummy.
i feel so much better now i have this off my chest and won't be spending my money on the traditional menu here anymore but will instead opt for a nice cold drink and my favourite wetherspoons Nacho's.Nobody can get crisps and cheese wrong....Yum!
Advantages: Low prices, good food most of the time Disadvantages: Tables are lacking cleanliness
...myself. This, unfortunately, was a weak point in a few Wetherspoons - the manky tables. Yet, if you manage to grab a clean table in a cosy Wetherspoon at a time when the pub is not too crowded, it can be a very pleasant dining experience for a bargain price. ...

Reviews which might be of interest for "Wetherspoons"
I would just like to write a review on my local Wetherspoon pub, having spent a lot of time in there as of late! But no, I am NOT an alcoholic before you sad people say anything to the contrary.
From entering the pub until you leave, no matter what time of day it is that you visit you are aways sure of a great welcome and a good atmosphere. The staff are there to make your experience as enjoyable as possible, it would do more than break their hearts in my mind if anything else happened to you whilst being under their care.
All of the Wetherspoon pubs are either older pubs that have been in existence for some time and taken over by the company, or are new pubs that have been set up by them. But no matter how they came about, they are all usually based on local landmarks etc. They display information about the local areas ...

I've now had a drink and/or eaten in a great many Wetherspoons around Britain and I feel that I am justified in reviewing them. As I start writing this I'm unsure how it is going to turn out as I've had varying degrees of service ranging from a couple of instances of truly awful to excellent. However, the good outweighs the bad - but is it enough to get a glowing report??.read on.
I'm going to focus on the main Wetherspoons pubs and touch very briefly on the Lloyds Bar brand.
~~~History and Background~~~
JD Wetherspoons was established in 1979 by a law student named Tim Martin.
Tim bought the pub that he drank in and decided to name it Wetherspoons after one of his lecturers from university who told him he would never amount to anything - how wrong he was. Apparently, the JD was added later and this was taken from ...
Advantages: can sit 9 people on one table Disadvantages: With Fleur de lis Banbury definately the service
On a Saturday it is very hard to find a mid day restaurant where 8 adults and a todler can all sit together.
So when my family all got together in Banbury we did a lot of research and came up with two places. One was extremely busy the other was The Fleur-de-Lis which is a Wetherspoons which we settled for.
The seating was fine and they had a good chair for my 20 month old Grand daughter.
