Wetherspoons pubs

Advantages: Cheap, Cheap, Cheap!
Disadvantages: Dirty tables

...eaten in a great many Wetherspoons around Britain and I feel that I am justified in reviewing them. As I start writing this I'm unsure how it is going to turn out as I've had varying degrees of service ranging from a couple of instances of truly awful to excellent. However, the good outweighs the bad - but is it enough to get a glowing report?….read on.

I'm going to focus on the main Wetherspoons pubs and touch very briefly on the ...
...Background~~~

JD Wetherspoons was established in 1979 by a law student named Tim Martin.

Tim bought the pub that he drank in and decided to name it Wetherspoons after one of his lecturers from university who told him he would never amount to anything - how wrong he was. Apparently, the JD was added later and this was taken from a character in the Dukes of Hazzard that Tim Martin was fond of.

...1 bar, a branch of Wetherspoons in the Printworks. On walking in it has a very modern, casual atmosphere, The music is loud enough to be heard clearly, but not so intrusive that you can't have a decent conversation. As you would expect, it's a mix of different modern music from R 'n' B to Indie to pop. It has a modern 'wine bar' type of atmosphere, which generally attracts all ages and types of people, from your lunch hour workers, to families, to ...
...of the day it's a Wetherspoons pub and still attracts your pound-a-pint-punters despite its posher location. £2! I couldn't believe it! All in all, if you don't mind sticky tables, and haven't got your heart set on one particular meal it's worth a visit because it's cheap and cheerful, and handy for town. I do feel that it's a bit slack that they can't give the tables a wipe as they clear the plates, it boils down to laziness really. The fact they ...

Disadvantages: Not got as far as Cornwall...yet.

...been trading since 1979.There are Wetherspoons outlets in most parts of the country and new outlets are due to open in 2001.Sadly for my husband and me, they are yet to open any premises in Cornwall where we holiday every year…but we live in hope. ...Square Peg”. A number of Wetherspoons pubs are called “The Full Moon” or “The Moon Under Water” and some are simply called “Wetherspoons.”When visiting relatives in Essex recently, I was amused to find “The Barking Dog.”(In Barking, where else?) Every Wetherspoons pub has a designated non-smoking area and I have seen staff impose this rule when some-one has lit up, which I appreciate, as a non-smoker ...

Cheap pub grub

Advantages: cheap food and drink, great variety
Disadvantages: Dodgy food at times

I am reviewing JD Wetherspoon bar and restaurant Who are they J D Wetherspoon plc (LSE: JDW) (commonly referred to as Wetherspoons) is a British pub chain, founded by Tim Martin in 1979.[1] It is based in Watford and is listed on the London Stock Exchange, where it is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index. The Bar: I am regular customer at my local JD Wetherspoon, there is actually two in my home city and I would go to the both of them, depending ...
...this bar because as I am a student, it's the cheapest in the town. And on many occasions their BLUE WKDs are realllllly tasty. I also like the atmosphere of the bar, it's very comfortable and it's also nice for a family. Both bars in my town are very spacey, so your not crampt in the corner or anything, and not sitting directly next to another customer. The price is one of the main reasons I go to the bar, and also as they have a great selection ...

wetherspoons - cheap, cheap, cheap

Advantages: cheap drinks, nice tasty food
Disadvantages: no music so no dancing!

Wetherspoons is my favourite pub, it provides a place everyone can go because there is no music (so people can't complain they don't like the type of music!), it has really nice, tasty food that isn't too expensive and most importantly the drinks are REALLY cheap. I am a student and find that this is one of the very few places that I can go and get drinks for not much more than union prices! You don't have to go on a special night (like student ...
...in all I think that Wetherspoons has definetly got the right idea when it comes to pubs, although not a brillant place to dance the night away, its excellent for a few drinks and a chat before moving on elsewhere. P.S beware of differing prices across the country, depending on the sort of area you are in!! ...

Wetherspoon - fit for a king?

Advantages: See text..
Disadvantages: See text.

I would just like to write a review on my local Wetherspoon pub, having spent a lot of time in there as of late! But no, I am NOT an alcoholic before you sad people say anything to the contrary. From entering the pub until you leave, no matter what time of day it is that you visit you are aways sure of a great welcome and a good atmosphere. The staff are there to make your experience as enjoyable as possible, it would do more than break their hearts ...
...being under their care. All of the Wetherspoon pubs are either older pubs that have been in existence for some time and taken over by the company, or are new pubs that have been set up by them. But no matter how they came about, they are all usually based on local landmarks etc. They display information about the local areas, and provide historical talking points on what used to be there. Being in the usual tradition of a pub, they sell an endless ...

Wetherspoons Friend or Foe?

Advantages: Cheap drinks, clean facilities, Tasty snacks.
Disadvantages: Hard vegetables and tasteless versions of homemade classics, no table service

I have really mixed feelings about JD Wetherspoons and feel i should try and explore them and come to a decision about wether they deserve our money. As you take that apprehensive little step through the door you are consistently met with a relaxed and cosy ambience and it all feels..... very british and traditional. If you are anything like me you head straight for the bar and are pleased at the excellent choice and variety of drinks on offer ( alcoholic and non-alcoholic). You are even more pleased when you have paid and realise how cheap it all is (£ 1-95 for a cosmopolitan WOW! ) So there you are drink in one hand and menu in the other and you are bowled over by the choice and price of all the gastronomic wonders to be had. " Okay i'm gonna have the steak pie and veg, its only £5.95!, and look at the picture of it, it ...

Wetherspoons everywhere

Advantages: Cheap cheap cheap
Disadvantages: Can get smokey(but not for much longer)

Where do you go when you want cheap food and a cheap drink? Where ever I am I look for the nearest Wetherspoons. I think that there are now over 600 locations in total There is at least one in most towns around the country. The process is simple. If you want a drink you go to the bar as in any other pub and then take it to your table. If you want a meal you find a table, note down the table number, choose your meal then go to the bar tell them your table number, pay for your meal, sit down and shortly afterwards it is delivered to your table. The drinks are far cheaper than in most pubs and you don't pay lots for non alcoholic drinks. I suppose if you are a bit snobby the wine list isn't the best but there is plenty of choice. Coffees cost 85p and if you only want a coffee that's fine. The menu is fairly varied and standard ...

Review of JD Wetherspoons, Kings Lynn, Norfolk

Dining and wining at Wetherspoon's

Advantages: Low prices, good food most of the time
Disadvantages: Tables are lacking cleanliness

Manchester has several Wetherspoon pubs most of which I have visited a number of times. Locations etc. can be found out through their website: http://www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/ By and large, Wetherspoon pubs offer very good prices for drinks as well as food. They are very individually designed and often have very different atmospheres. On the other hand, because they are such good value, they can get very crowded at the week-ends, which makes the pubs less suitable for dining. Yet, if you would like to sample their food, pick a time when the pub is relatively quiet. I can recommend the salads (caesar salad with chicken for 4 Pound something or the side salad for about 2 Pound). The caesar salad in a strict sense is not a 'proper' caesar salad because it's not made of romaine leaves. Nevertheless, it's tasty and fresh. I can also ...
